Neighborhood is pretty bad off but I think I got it among the worst.

My theory is that because I don't have irrigation in the front, my trees were even more brittle and sick from the drought. In the back where I have some massive ones, the damage isn't as bad, but they get a lot more water from the septic sprayers.

Don't try to take the ice off them yourself, will make it worse.

Work all day and get some Cooper's for dinner.

But yeah, on my undeveloped acreage, it's kind of hard to walk through now, whereas before, I had trails cleared.

Weve got some fire Mexican places around the lease that we like. How did the mesquite make it? I may bring some saw and come home with fire and smoking wood.

That is heartbreaking. If trees grew back fast, like grass, it would be bad enough. But live oaks and other serious trees take a long time to recover, regrow, or be replaced. Sorry.

in some cases ice storms are good for the trees, nature’s way of pruning, trimming back dead or dying parts

I'm surprised oak wilt hasn't got them already. My brother lost branches from his Cedar Elm and a live oak in far southwest austin from the ice.

Most decent tree guys won't cut from spring to mid fall to avoid oak wilt. We also seal, although I've read that doesn't necessarily help but who knows?

Man that sucks. I had one damn tree in my yard, a live oak and Ida took it down.

My friend in Denton sent me a video this morning of her entire car completely encased in an inch and a half of ice. Pretty wild.

My brother's inlaws have a ranch outside fredericksburg, never prune their Oaks and 80% of them are dead from oak wilt. I'm talking several hundred dead live oaks.

I know it is of little consolation, but you should consider having something special done with the wood once they are removed. There are woodworkers/mills that will work on damaged tree salvage for that purpose. It would at least give you something tangible from such a shite situation.
