11 AM Advisory center of cone is now between Sarasota and Venice.

Good news for Tampa Bay surge.

Bad news for strength of Ian before landfall which means stronger winds will hit everywhere along coast and farther inland.

The hurricane should remain in a favorable environment for
restrengthening over the next day or so while it moves over the warm
waters of the southeastern Gulf of Mexico and in light-shear
conditions. While the shear should increase by tomorrow, it isn't
expected to be enough to significantly weaken the hurricane before
landfall.
Model guidance is in fairly good agreement on this
scenario, and the NHC intensity forecast continues to call for an
extremely dangerous hurricane landfall for southwestern Florida.

Does he make house calls? I'm sure a few folks will have water issues in the next couple of days. You know, since he's staying to work and all

11 AM NHC update #HurricaneIan Higher confidence in landfall south of Sarasota and Tampa Bay

Expected to be nearly Category 4 near land = huge surge

Slow movement = long duration, wide spread wind gust damage and flooding rains

However, the entire coast from Fort Myers up to Tampa, including downtown, should be prepared for Hurricane conditions tomorrow from #HurricaneIan

Don't let your guard down if storm tracks 50-100 miles away, as Ian will be very large

Also means that AMI/Holmes/LBK won't get the direct rotational force from the Gulf.

Yeah, the new NHC forecast from the 10am CDT advisory calls for 125mph sustained winds at landfall. Not good.

That could be huge for Tampa from a wind perspective. Not sure about surge.

Man. That video should be linked in the OP’s post going forward anytime a major hurricane is in play.

If there is any chance you could find yourself next to water and the eye wall of a major hurricane you simply need to move your arse elsewhere.

I sure hope people living along the inter coastal between Naples and Tampa are inland right now.

Surge will be greatly reduced if it comes in south of Tampa Bay. NHC map already reduced surge estimates from 8-12 feet to 5-8 feet.

If the center is south of Tampa that would hopefully create more of an offshore flow in that area that would push water sort of out rather than piling it in.
