It's up there with the most mind numbing experiences you can have. It's like being at the DMV all day but your number never gets called.

Got summoned once. Made two trips to just fill out paperwork. Majority of the questions were sports/Saints related. Case got settled. It was the Sharper trial. I was kind of sad.

That young thug rappers trial in Georgia went on for an entire year; imagine being on that jury

Just being a middle aged, cleaned shaven, white dude is a pretty fool proof way to avoid jury duty these days.

Honest question—is there any reason to fear retribution when serving on a jury? Do defendants/their allies have a chance of identifying jury members? This is always in the back of my mind when I am contemplating whether or not I’d be eager to serve on a jury.

RE: Getting out of Federal Grand Jury Duty …..

When I went for Fed jury duty in BR some years back the Judge asked the prospective jurors 3 questions

1. Do you have small children at home ?
2. Do you own your own business ?
3. Are you in any way physically or mentally unable to sit on this jury ?

If you couldn’t answer yes to any of these you were SOL (shite outta luck) and had to hope you weren’t called.

I was the 2nd juror called on an 18 month probe ! Those were the days I tell ya .

I saw a federal judge tell a business owner his excuse wasn't good enough and made him stay in the jury pool. His excuse was that no one else knew how to do payroll so his employees wouldn't get paid. The judge told him to do payroll in the evening after jury duty.

Then she turned around and let a woman out of her duty because she was going to miss her daughter's senior year mother/daughter lunch.

Tell them you are a very objective person and will make a decision based on all the evidence as presented.

Then tell them you have always dreamed about being the one to flip the switch on the electric chair and if they are indeed guilty could they let you be the one to activate the "justice juice"

This. They have no proof you even received it if they didn't send it "Registered Mail" and you had to sign for it-------and they are not going through that expense, at least on the local level with N.O. Criminal Courts Jury Duty Summons.

IMO: It's a duty that, if you're capable of chatting on this board, you should undertake if selected. Sack up.

If you have the judge that I had, he's going to embarrass the shite out of you in front of a couple dozen people if you give a silly excuse.

And make you stay for the entire selection process.
