Mid year I had a $5000 incentive on my check. Didn't know what to do. Stayed quiet for 3 months just waiting to pay it back. We had a regional call towards the end of 3rd quarter and they let us know our bonuses were changed from yearly to quarterly without telling nobody

Burger King will eventually discover their mistake and take the money back from you.

I got paid twice one time. I reported the double payment. They said oopisie thanks for the honesty we would have never noticed. At W2 time they reported the extra payment I returned to the IRS as income

Notify payroll immediately. They will know what to do.

Ask Payroll right away why it is higher. Ultimately, you'll be glad you did.

If they don't notice right away, there is a good chance they will later and you'll have to come up with the money. Just ask if it was a mistake.

Take the amount in cash, put in your safe. Wait a few months, then keep it. If they discover it, just give the cash back. Always play stupid.

Go into your boss’s office and thank him repeatedly for the bonus, and let him know that you plan to get your wife and kids something nice.

I’m sure Applebee’s will just take it out of your next paycheck

I wouldn’t worry about it

doesn't matter if they find out or not. Give it back and you will not only feel better but possibly be rewarded. I may be old school but doing the right thing is always the right answer.

Best to speak up. Not sure the old "I thought I got a raise" trick will work....

Put it into an interest bearing account just pay it back if they ever ask. Profit.

So put it in an savings account earning 0.5% and when your employer figures it out you can either look stupid for not figuring out you were overpaid or dishonest for not telling them you were overpaid. Sounds like a solid plan.

I wouldn’t count on it. Send them a notification and wait to see what happens next.

Payroll will find out. Some departments let you pay it back over a few checks, some departments will take it all back out of one check.

If you move it and they pull it back you will likely get an overdraft charge.

If you move it knowing it isn't yours, that's theft and you can be prosecuted. This thread is evidence you know it isn't yours.

This is also partly why businesses will cut a check for 13 cents if they find you've overpaid.

Thou shalt not steal

Sounds like you did not.

Also sounds like for 3 months you were thinking about it.
