I would make a note of the date/time and the person's name whom you notified.

It happened to me once and I brought it up with payroll.
I didn't want to mess with it by ignoring something that would be found later.

Just act like you didn't notice. FWIW I probably wouldn't notice that.

Send a heartfelt thank you e-mail to your boss for the surprise bonus. Explain that your family has fallen and hard times recently and that this bonus is the lifeline you've been praying for. Emphasize that the generosity of your company is why you intend to be a loyal and hard working employee.

Many years ago when I was in college, I took full advantage of the GI Bill. Pell grants and scholarships took care of most of my tuition and the GI Bill paid me just over $1K a month as long as I was a full time student. Summer rolls around and I'm not in school, boom, I'm still getting direct deposit.
I go to the lady at college who handles all that and she calls the VA. Guy at the VA says, "Oh no, he shouldn't have been paid. We will be taking that money out." July comes and boom, another $1k. So I have an extra $2,100 or so in my account that I'm afraid to touch.
That money never left. It stayed in there for about six months or so before I even touched it. I started taking classes in the summer so I got paid year round

Depends.. Assuming you desire to maintain your employment status... I am an auditor. One of my responsibilities is to audit 12 Timekeeper payroll records. My work gets audited by a different procedure. The chances are pretty good they will find it.
Here's the thing... They have control of all of your future pay, so, when they do find it, they can and will get it back. If you want to hold it, that's up to you, but I certainly wouldn't spend it.
If you are in a position where integrity is an major issue, returning it before they find it could work to your benefit.

Month after that I received a random credit of -$2700 approx.
They credited the wrong account. We got a Lowe's card only because my wife wanted a patio set. We purchased it with the temp card you get online and never got a freaking bill. This was seven years ago and I'm still waiting for a bill to pop up. We haven't used the card since.

If you have direct deposit they are allowed to Claw Back any over payment.
Just saying don't go spend money you might not have at some point.

Had this happen to me a couple of years ago - I was credited for a route/delivery of another driver. Noticed it on my paystub for the week and called up payroll first thing the next morning. Company just told me to keep it as an advance on next weeks pay.

Call payroll and ask what is up. This also happened to me where I got like 20 times what I usually get each check. They said it was an accident, they did it with multiple people's paychecks and eventually took back the overage from my account.
If this were decent money you should have taken all the excess money out and bet on black and put the exact amount you took out and more. Profit for hookers and blow and a few free trips to Vegas with some casino comps if you wager like that at a place like Beau since they owned by a major Vegas casino company.
But if this is McDonalds money, it is not enough to talk about and get yourself in trouble.

Come on, man......this is the OT. 30% of 100k, obviously.

Corporations aren't nice. Have you ever been underpaid at a corporation? I have. Took me 6 weeks to get those funds.

Also after 5 days they need written authorization in some states to pull back the funds. If they don't do it... Find new job close bank account and take the money and run.

Thou shalt not steal
Thou should not steal from the one who feeds you
Thou just stole my time by this post
It is not too late for thou to do the right thing by your employer.
It is too late for me to get my 30 seconds back. F me.

Send the amount of the overpayment to me. I'll make sure it ends up in the right hands.
