Does MO have a state income tax? What is sales tax rate? Those 2 factors alone might be worth it. Also school ratings factor into real estate resale popularity

6% less to move from one bad place to another bad place?

Depends where in MO

On average MO has more going for it than LA

On average, except for MS and AL, all states have more going for it than LA

And if it was a 6% increase, I'd probably be saying why not go for it. But living anywhere in MO isn't exactly an incentive to take less money. At least that's my opinion, it's all subjective.

Hold up. I'd question the company's long-term financial stability in general if a 6% difference in COL prompted them to lower your salary.

That was my first thought. On a $100k salary, that's only $6000.

Have you verified yourself the COL is that much lower?

6% isn't much if you really like the work and have a good chance for advancement. Might have a better trajectory if you do move.

Why would you make a lateral move?
It is not a better state.
It is a much colder climate.
Less money is less money, and has very little to do with cost of living as that metric is very fluid and can swallow you whole in a month.
The only reason for this type of move is room for advancement.
Yes I have done this and it was for more not less in an area that had significantly lower cost of living.
Company justification sounds nickel and dime.

If you let the company lowball you from the get go, they will always lowball you. No way.

MO has 4.225 percent state tax, plus you pay property tax on your vehicle. If you live in Kansas City, there is an additional 1 percent income tax. I do like Kansas City a lot.
