But then they get to high school and older and the drinking starts all over again. I can’t tell you how many dads drank a lot of beer when we were in high school. I get that it’s a different generation but they had some hardcore boozers.

Congrats, man. Keep it up

Congratulations. I'm also sober, and have been since Jan 1, 2006.
Not only is it possible, but it is definite. My life is divided into two parts: the part from birth to Jan 1st, 2006, and my life from Jan 1st, 2006 to right now. Of course, I'm still very much the same person. But a lot has changed.
The life I live today with my wife and kids, the house I live in, the job I have and the money I make, the person I am, the fact that I escaped what should have been certain death three times in my life, and escaped a period of real life wanting to commit suicide (and I wasn't telling anybody). It's so far beyond what I expected I can't even describe it. I'm grateful as a motherfrick about all of it. And I owe every bit of it to my creator and to staying sober and doing the work. I'm still the same person, but so much has changed about me. And changed in a good way.
So I give you the answer with a resounding "YES!" to your question.

Exactly.
I don’t have the “off switch” like normal people do. Once I start drinking, only biology or the police are stopping me.
Yep, and last time it was the police and it led to very unpleasant time of my life. June 18th, 2016 and not a drop since.

Much respect to you and the fellow posters in here who are on a sobriety journey. It may not mean anything at all, but this internet stranger supports you and believes in you fully. Keep up the good work!

I have never understood why alcohol is so ingrained into our society when it's one the deadliest drugs there is out there and kills more people indirectly in a month than marijuana ever will in two decades. Alcohol may make you feel good in the short term but at its core, it's still poison that harms your body and has negative effects on your lifestyle.
I don't drink, never got into it and my liver has absolutely no idea what alcohol is and that's on top of no smoking as well and working out in the gym 3-4 days a week. You have just only one body, take good care of it.

You have one high horse. Get back on it and leave this thread. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more holier than thou and judgmental post before.

Only you could be so sensitive and special enough that a simple statement of "You only have one body, take good care of it" pisses you off. Especially when it was just a musing out loud not pointed at anyone.
Sorry about the health problems, sounds like you still a long way to go. Good luck.

I have lived a lot of places and Southerners drink wayyyy more than any other people other than Russians. Russians are differnet level drinkers, comparable to South Louisiana.

true or not, drinking stories are the most hardcore i've heard thanks to court appointed rehab.
the poor bastards who are in there for weed shouldn't be there i think everyone feels their pain more than anyone else.
