I never wanted to be in my final days thinking what might have been different if I hadn’t been drinking. After giving it a try I stuck with it. Good for you. For those that drink that’s ok too.

The difference in the way I felt the next day made me nearly quit, I still partake once or twice a month but can't stand the freaking body aching hangover.

I don’t know you and will almost certainly never meet you but I’m still proud of the changes you’ve made and the fact that you’re sharing your story. Keep it up!

Is it possible to restart your life in your late 30s? I hope so. I feel like a completely new person now.

No, its not too late. I lost a relationship with my father (who was my best friend) due to alcoholism. We had started to rebuild our relationship but unfortunately he lost a battle to cancer before we could fully repair.

Don't waste time, get back with your friends and family, but be understanding if they move slowly or are cautious.

Good for you!

I quit July 10 2016. My life has never been better. Better relationships, happier, my business has expanded, yes it's possible to recover, I did it at 57 years old.

And like I said, i'm surprised how many people cheered me on with this - i honestly expected some pushback. Everyone knew I had a problem except for me.

drinkers need that sugar when they aint drinking.

Yuuuuup.

Once i figured out that chocolate is a great craving killer, well - M&M's have had a very healthy sales year. This lent i swore off the sugar and I've already started noticing my belt loosening up.

I've always felt bad for binge drinkers on multiple levels. Anywhere from simply the cost of the booze to how much they end up losing in their lives like good times with friends etc because they're shite faced lying on a couch passed out.
Once I learned that most of the best times in life don't involve alcohol, my life is much more enriching

I always get blacked out and still make it to work in the morning. You just have to have the work ethic to do so.

Imagine having to hang out with people now that are all sober. Alcohol is the only thing that is fun when you get older

Good for you, it was a problem in your life and you identified and made the change, and not an easy one either. Well done.
