So what do you do on a Friday/Saturday night now?

I use to get bored as frick. I’d literally go run or go up to the local theater. It go so lonely after awhile. I’d also go pick up my drunk friends from tigerland.

No they don’t, thankfully addiction is becoming a more approachable subject but it still has a stigma. I’d attempt the impossible if it meant I could drink like a normal person but the cards just aren’t there.

Congrats man.
That’s awesome.

You’re damn right.
I quit drinking March 28, 2012 in my 30’s and life has gotten better than I ever imagined.
Complete fresh start and all my dreams (and then some) are coming true.

I’ve found a few. They always leave me. Don’t ever end up like me. It’s miserable and tiresome

And depressing

My wife asks me about it all the time. Whenever I go sober she asks me why I can't just have a couple drinks with dinner. Doesn't work like that! If I get started I'm gonna get drunk, and really there's no stopping it. Almost becomes a physical thing, I'd like to stop but that's not really an option.

I've been one of the few people I've known of that used to drink like this but don't anymore and can still have a drink. It took me years to be able to split a bottle of wine with my wife and not want to drink 3 more.
I've tried to moderate my drinking. I've also went sober for periods and convinced myself that I was now ok to have a couple of beers on the weekend. Always ends the same way for me. I finally learned I just have to abstain completely.

Anytime you want to grab a beer let me know my man. I’ll just have a soda with lime

LSU or other sporting events
Spending time with family
Bowling
Go out to eat
Go to the gym (a favorite)
Arcades
Movies
Board games
Concerts
Top Golf
Cards
Casino
Play pool
Skating
Crawfish boils
Darts
Movie/Netflix nights at home with tons of snacks (my absolute favorite)
Read the Bible
Learn a second language
Play an instrument
Go on a trip
Play on Tigerdroppings

It’s amazing how much more free time and tons of money I have since I quit drinking.
And I get to wake up feeling just as good as I did when I went to sleep.

Which is crazy because most wouldn’t consider that addiction. The biggest rule for addiction is that if it causes you negative consequences but you continue to do it. Who would continue to drink if it meant bad things would happen? An addict

Good luck defining that. It’s different for everyone and it doesn’t mean DWI, divorce or being fired. If you’re not living your life the way your family wants you to, the way God wants you to, the way you want to.. that by itself is a negative consequence.

That’s me to a T or however that saying goes

I can go Monday through Thursday without a drink but one the weekend hits it’s game on. I always wake up the next day with so much anxiety not remember what the frick I did.

Thank god for Uber

Defining a negative aspect of ones drinking is pretty damn easy to identify. It’s the person that needs to responsible to recognizing it

Thanks man but I think it’s something I’m going to have to on my own

I’ll either hurt someone else or myself until I learn. Hopefully it’s myself

I feel like your missing my point, of course the negative consequences don’t stop someone from drinking. That’s what makes an alcoholic an alcoholic

There are millions of us ready to take that journey with you. We’re not meant to do it alone and if it wasn’t for the healthy people around me, I would’ve never quit, would’ve remained single, maybe in jail, maybe dead, but for sure all alone.
