Opps. Ok, you're right. I thought you were saying it had canceled when it was supposed to still be active. . My bad.

LA DMV literally lie to you about what you need to do to fix things and actively make it impossible to rectify any issues THEY caused.
They told me they needed XYZ information. I bring it from my insurance company, with their letterhead and they proceed to tell me the information they need is there but it's in the wrong format....I shite you not. I fix it, go back, they tell me "oh the girl last time didn't tell you it needed to be signed by your insurance agent? We can't accept this." I get it signed (to which my insurance agent said they've NEVER had to do before) and bring it back. I get told the requirements have now changed. I left and just gave up.
frick that entire state.

Happened to me. I made an appointment at one of the omv offices for 8:30. Apparently the person who handles lapsed insurance rolled up at 9:40 to start her work day. She was as pleasant as I thought she would be

Yep, I had a similar situation. Pay the fine (it ain’t cheap) knowing full well you did nothing wrong except fall victim to a LA scam that’s been going on for years.

You can find all the DMV policies online. Every time I go, I find and print out the appropriate policy and bring it with me.
I've educated them on their policies more than once.

This is why I use those express OMVs.. Got one by my house I had to use a couple times and they’re super quick every time

did you do the plate and registration paperwork at an auto title place? Because if you didn’t you should have

Prepare to get screwed. I switched insurance during covid. New company didn't report right away. Years later i get a letter saying my license is on hold.
Long story short it cost me $750. But then i bought a motorcycle. I didn't get the right license. I at the time had a flag so i couldn't get the license so my motorcycle insurance dropped me. That's anther $500. Then i sold a car and turned in the plate but again they claim no imsurance on that car. So I'm trying to fight it. Lifetime I'm likely$4k in omv fees.
I hate them.

I bought a used motorcycle, I got insurance on it, the original owner cancelled his insurance on the bike. The OMV fined me for not having insurance on it even though I had insurance on it for three months leading up to the point it was reported cancelled by the other insurance company. Fined me $700 and it took me three years and my insurance agency sending several letters stating I had insurance the entire time. The state sent me to collections and tried to withhold my tax refund this year. The entire “no insurance” fine thing is a fricking scam.

20-ish years ago I bought a car in Georgia and brought it back to Louisiana. To say that it took all day to get it registered, and was a Cluster F, is to speak poorly of, and slander, Cluster F's. The worst part was that I had all the necessary papers and forms, yet it STILL took forever.
At the end of a long and infuriating experience, I told the woman that it was a damn good thing she was a civil service employee, as any real business would have run her arse off on the first day.

They've handed me their own documents with what they required, then proceeded to tell me on the next visit that they weren't sure why I was given that documentation.
The DMV offices could burn down with the workers inside of them and it'd make my day better. frick Louisiana.

Yes, but in the case of the DMV, you have to make an exception.
Dysentery is almost too good for them.

My sister got a flag for an expired registration tied to a car she has never owned the other day.
Also, my wife went to renew her registration last week and it says there is a flag on her license so she can't but no one will answer the phone at the OMV.
Soooo... wtf are you supposed to do?

Yeah this happened to me when switching providers you can’t even have a day of lapsed insurance.
Meanwhile people who never bother with insurance are just driving around.
