re: What bucks do you pass on?

Big bodies. If they have big bodies around here they usually have a big rack to go with it or a compact heavy heavy mass palmatted rack. We are lucky my neighbors are very picky and almost never kill anything. I just got to continue working on my dad not shooting 2.5 yr old studs “before the outlaws get him.” “If the neighbors aren’t shooting them, I’m not shooting them, that leaves you…you are the outlaw.” The lightbulb finally started glowing.
They are way more reliable than most give credit for. Owned by many females that don’t know what maintenance is or bubba that beats them against rocks.

re: White lake duck hunting

Won a marsh hunt a few years ago when we had the bad drought and they canceled the hunts due to deteriorated habitat from saltwater intrusion. Went in the rice with a buddy the year before only killed 2.
This right here. If people want older bucks, just don’t shoot young ones. Don’t force others to play by your arbitrary rules. As long as it’s not a fawn and makes you happy or meets your management objective shoot it. State deer regulations needs to be based 100% on deer density for habitat not antler not size.
Heard some old timers at bar talking about project cowboy detonating some nuclear testing in the quarry in Winnfield.
Antler restrictions across a state or parish is a bad idea. The current frame work for Louisiana is probably one of the best in the country that balances opportunity and population protection. Fawn health and time of birth (early/late) can drive wither or not a young buck could be harvested with these types of regulations, do you know if a late drop fawn in a drought year is carrying genetics to be a trophy? You have 2 bucks standing in the lane, one is a harvestable has 3 points on one side at the ears or whatever made up restriction is in place and one is scraggly and doesn't meet the minimum standards. Congratulations the better genetics may have just got harvested. Do this long enough and your average antler size at maturity will go down. No if ands or buts about it, that is how selective harvesting and breeding works. People need to be able to shoot what they feel is fitting for their property and objectives. An injured buck with funky rack may not be harvestable with restrictions. Keeping population below 50% of carrying capacity entering spring is very important for the health of the deer herd. Explore the MSU deerlab studies they have a wealth of data on these topics. One study was a large high fence in Texas that did extensive antler restrictions and the neighboring property was free range not restrictions, the free range no restrictions end up passing the high fence property on average mature buck antler size. re: This week in LA State Police news

People really need to raise more hell to elected officials about stuff like this. Parish Sheriffs can be held accountable at election time. The head of the Louisiana state mob needs to be an elected official. They like all public workers should not receive a dime of taxpayer money in retirement.
I bought a used motorcycle, I got insurance on it, the original owner cancelled his insurance on the bike. The OMV fined me for not having insurance on it even though I had insurance on it for three months leading up to the point it was reported cancelled by the other insurance company. Fined me $700 and it took me three years and my insurance agency sending several letters stating I had insurance the entire time. The state sent me to collections and tried to withhold my tax refund this year. The entire “no insurance” fine thing is a fricking scam.

re: 2015 Jeep Wrangler JK thoughts…

Wife put 240k on her 2014 jku all original driveline. No issues out of it until it started ticking at 240k, can still run and drive. Bought a bronco a few months ago as change of pace. I’m currently at 128k and no issues on a 23 gladiator. The pentastar is a reliable engine.
I thought that stretch was bad but recently rode from Fort Worth to southwest Texas the scenic route and some of those little towns made Campti look good.
The rav4 really was a turd. I haven’t been in one in years so that might have changed.
I don’t know a single person that has GM truck large SUV made in the last ten years that has made it to 150k without having motor or transmission replaced. Oftentimes both replaced by then. They have also all been plagued with other gremlins. It’s a shame what GM vehicles have become.
I have a 2022 gladiator Willy’s with 119,000 miles that I have had zero issues out of and treat like a SxS in the woods, I pull an 18ft mud boat and 21ft bay boat up to 5 hrs one way with it. I had a 2016 2 door rubicon that I used to take to to mud parks and was my daily driver never had an issue that wasn’t self inflicted. That jeep was $10-15k less than most of the SxS on the trail but had ac/heat and was street legal. My better half just parked her 2014 Sahara at 240,000 miles due to the engine started ticking, first issue it has had.

re: HPV vaccine

I know a girl whose parents are hardcore Baptist and was against her getting the HPV vaccine because no way their daughter would ever have sexual relations before marriage. She married a guy that was more promiscuous before marriage and she now has long term health complications do to it. First guy she had ever slept with and ended up marrying him. He had no idea he had HPV.
I’m on my second jeep product, first was a 2 door rubicon soft top and currently in a softop gladiator. My better half just switched to a bronco from a 4 door wrangler that finally having a slight valve tick at 240,000 miles. All of that to say I absolutely loathe rock crawling and that bunch of people make Jeep owners look bad. I use to take my stock $24k rubicon to the Boggs and boulders off-road park and would go everywhere the 30-40k SxS would go within reason but had AC and could drive it home afterwards. I take my gladiator to every deer stand on my hunting lease and sometimes enjoy navigating the washouts more than the hunting.
This recipe is one of my favorites and a big hit with everyone that tries it.
Explore Louisiana Butter Pecan
For about a week. Zyrtec and Flonase in the morning and Benadryl at night knocked it out now only on the Zyrtec and Flonase.
I’m very pleased with the MPGs my gladiator gets. Way better than similar setup tacomas and frontiers I’ve been around. Interstate isn’t great but I have yet to see a gas truck get good real world interstate MPGs. My better half’s 2014 wrangler got the pentastar tick two weeks ago at 240,000 miles first non-routine maintenance item on it.
I bought a gladiator brand new in 22. Had to get a 4x4 truck for my job, jeep was the only truck being advertised and sold at or below MSRP while every single other brand’s dealerships where marking up $10-15k. I now have 106k trouble free miles in 2.5 years and it gets beat on pretty hard.
