I also had an LSU great, Ebert VanBuren, as an instructor when I went to school there.
I didn’t realize until a few months ago that my grandfather and Ebert both played at LSU at the same time. Too bad I didn’t realize that before either of them died and I could talk to them about it.

Do they...I never hear about flagship universities for systems...only a state's flagship university. But if it's something that makes you feel better go for it I guess
Look at Arkansas.
You’ve got the university of Arkansas system with Fayetteville being the flagship. Then there’s the Arkansas State University system with Jonesboro being the flagship of that system.
It doesn’t help me sleep at night it’s just normal and there’s nothing wrong with Louisiana having another campus being a flagship for the other system in the state. It’s not a threat to LSU’s supremacy in the state.
It clearly triggers a lot of people on here. It’s a sensitive topic apparently. Just the thought of there being tUL sets it off.

Why would Lafayette not be qualified to be the flagship of the UL system?
Because Louisiana tech exists, is in the UL system, and is the better school.

I don't think anybody things of Arkansas state as a flagship.
If asked the flagship university for the state or Arkansas people would say the university or Arkansas. Same as if asked about Louisiana they would say LSU
Again...if you wanna call a school the flagship of _____ university system cool... doesn’t t mean it gets top funding priority in that state so it matters little, but go for it. Just an odd thing to try to "aktually" people on

I think Pat Collins is from Shreveport. Joe Raymond Peace is from Sicily Island, but he coached at Tech.

I was like cool thread I think I will post something then I realized this thing came back to life from 2019 and I already did.
Yeah Mike Collins is our head coach at Neville. Shite I think Micky was still our head coach in 2019. Not sure if Mike was on staff then or not.

quote:A game vs. West Monroe wasn't sh*t when NLU was big. Neville's big rivalry was Ouachita. back then. When they played those games on Thursday nights, or if we played on a Thursday night, my buddies & I from Farmerville would go to the game.
Neville vs west monroe
according to 14-0 Productions, West Monroe never won a district championship before 1993.

I went to USL. I never liked the name change, never liked the move to FBS. The old Southland Conf with USL, Tech, NLU, Northwestern, McNeese made for great games in football and basketball.

If there was a flagship school in the University of Louisiana System, it would easily be Louisiana Tech University.
That said, no school other than LSU will be a flagship school in Louisiana.
I miss NLU but the new leaders are pulling the university out of the boiling hot mess that Lawson left in Monroe. He should have faced jail time.
NLU and Louisiana Tech have been set back by being forced to hire certain people as political favors.
KNLU was the bomb and probably one of the best college radio stations in the nation.

quote:A guy from Mobile, AL named John Holman was the QB when when I was there..Pretty sure he was a John David Crowe recruit. John Floyd, an NLU WR from Gladewater,TX was probably Crowe's biggest recruit. He was a 4th round pick for the Chargers in 1979. Coach Crowe never won a SLC championship, but was good for the NLU program.
Before the name change and moving from I-AA to I-A for football, NLU was QBU. Stan Humphries, Bubby Brister and Doug Pedersen . Decision makers should have let well enough alone.
quote:
Becoming a starter late in his rookie season, Holman went on to establish 22 ULM passing and total offense records by the time he concluded his career in 1982. He also set the all-time Louisiana collegiate record for pass completions in a state known for great quarterbacks. He completed 593 of 1,201 passes for 7,827 yards and 51 touchdowns. His yardage total ranked 7th on the NCAA's all-time collegiate list when he concluded his career.

ETA: Was looking for a pic of Holman and found this FB page called:
