Why not just tell her the truth and how you were so interested in seeing her, you stretched the truth.
Then tell her you definitely want to do it, if she'll help oace you theough it.

She will appreciate you more in the long run (no oun intended)

That’s basically 9 1/2 minute miles (3) of them. If you are under 35 that shouldn’t be difficult.
My game plan if I was that out of shape would be to just run at her pace. 31 minutes is basically a fast walk.

Posts like this are completely worthless. a 6MPH pace isn't a "fast walk" which is what 10 minute mile would be.

Tell her you haven't run at all recently so may not finish at your best time

Some of you sound like my stepdad who is almost 60, smokes a pack a day, doesn't have an athletic bone in his body, but is convinced he can run a 10 min mile because thats basically walking pace.

There needs to be a OT 5K, and you should be required to have your comments printed on your shirt.

I run a couple times a week for a few miles. I can still comfortably run 20-21 for 5k.

Unless you are heavy, it shouldn’t be terribly difficult to run under 30 minutes.

I disagree, he should only tell her he lied on mile 2

Then make it look painful and gut it out with her (at her pace) regardless of how you're actually doing

She'll think it's funny that you're running for the first time with her and will have sympathy for you, and she'll be impressed that you can run an impromptu 5k just to impress her (at her time)

It's the type of shite that girls would love as the "how I met my husband" story.

If you’ve never run (meaning not even participating in the more sprint-based sports), you’re going to have trouble pulling this off. 30min would put you about middle of the pack for a 5k among causal people who sometimes run (go time a Happy’s 5k). Granted, many in the slower-than-30 crowd are actually fat/out of shape, or short females.

Former football players/basketball players/etc can probably get back under this on the first attempt even if out of sports for a while. Most others will need time to work this down, keeping your heart rate up for 30min is a bit of a task if you’ve never asked your body to do it before.

Best bail out is to fake a cramp (if you’ve never run in there’s a good chance this is going to happen anyway). Don’t run alongside your date if it looks like she’s in better shape than you, she can see if you’re winded while she’s at a comfortable pace.

Comfortable pace on a 5k/10k is roughly as fast as you can jog, while still holding enough back that you could talk if you wanted to.

The good news is charity 5k’s can stop a good bit short of a 5k. The Corporate cup one in Baton Rouge a few years back was only a 2.6 miler, people were shaving 5 minutes of their best “real” times.

What you need to do is let her beat you and you act like you're dying and can't make it, maybe vomit a little. Then tell her you've never have run in your life but she was worth running a 5k just for a chance of a date.

Run as fast as you can non stop for 30 min. If you cant do that, you're fricked. Or, just fake an injury within the 1st hundred feet. Either way, you'll look like a lying pos.

Easiest solution is to sabotage her, put something in her water bottle or hire someone to trip her at the beginning of the race.

Run hard until you hit the wall. We'll see if Chicken can setup an over/under pick'em for how far you get. I pick 322 yards.

There is a pretty easy solution here..

Just run with her... make sure you keep up. It'll be sweet and you dont have to act like a bad arse.

Also... 29 min is nothing to brag about. Just slow jog and you can do that.

Not sure where this race is, but if its around here, in So. La, with the temps right now, he's in trouble.

That Baw is in big trouble. Your best bet might be to come out of the gate strong and lose her in the crowd. Then, Uber to the 2.5 mile mark and make a strong run to the finish line.

I'm currently on week 3 of the couch to 5k program. Never been a runner. I've always done elliptical or the machines at the gym. I can do those for an hour easy. Running is much, much more difficult. Well, for a 45 year old office worker it is.

My mile times doing the interval training averages around 12 mins per mile. That time comes down every week as the run times increase and the walk times decrease.
