Overall I went 2.7 miles in about 36 minutes.
You will do better on race day. You just have to alternate running and walking. Target an individual who is barely in front of you and try keep up with them. Adrenaline and having people around you to help pace you will shave time off by few mins.
ETA: The first stretch and the last one is where you need to earn it. Keep alternating walking and running in the middle.

OP, can you arrive early and run a warm-up mile? The trick is to get the heart rate up before the race begins, then your body will be all set to maintain a solid pace. Remember, a warm engine is more efficient than a cold engine.

UPDATE
Um, get good shoes and running socks. 2.7 in 36 is gonna be tough to translate into 3.1 in 29 on Saturday, but you'll get close.
Get up early on race day and. don't. drink. coffee.
I doubt you have much soreness as long as you stretch before and after.

I just checked the weather. Birmingham is supposed to top out at 98 on Saturday. You will either eat some extra salt, potassium, and magnesium, or you will be cramped into a wretched little ball by mile 1.5.
She is going to know, so your end-of-race strategy is important here. Tell her "I lied because you are beautiful, and may be the sweetest girl I ever met. Now, let's go get a shower."

Me, not knowing anything about 5k times, said I usually run them under 29 minutes just so I could one up her.
So, you lied to her AND tried to make yourself seem better than she is to impress her? Sounds a bad strategy. Just be yourself and don't lie. I think she would appreciate that much more than what you're doing here.

OP,
I've been doing the couch to 5k here in Bham for the last three weeks. The heat is bad, but it's not pass out and puke bad as some described. My goal is the 5k at The Preserve on Sept 21st. I'll be happy to just finish.
Keep us updated!

Man, I don't think that's a bad time for Vegetative State.

Do I need to buy running shorts?
Absolutely not! Show up looking like a non-runner. Tell her at the starting line this is actually your first 5K. Run with her initiating conversation. If you guys mesh well, enjoy your date. If not, you have an excuse to go your separate ways.

A few more suggestions
Either get some legit running shorts/socks or show up in a 3-piece suit or full blown spandex onesie - you’re either certified or you’re “the fun guy” - can’t ride the fence here!
I still think coming clean mid-race or as you’re dying at the finish line will he met with “aww” instead of “wtf” so keep that in mind.
Others have mentioned it, but stretch and hydrate like fricking crazy. If you think you’re doing too much, you probably aren’t doing enough.
Breathe deep but not fast while you’re running, try to keep everything moving in sync. No flailing when you get tired.
Walk if you must, but don’t stop. You can still cover some ground when you’re walking, but if you stop you’re toast.
Don’t eat food or drink coffee that will make you shite yourself.
You’ve got a couple days, I think you can do it, or at the very least come out of this looking good.
Good luck!

OP your results show you don't have the aerobic base to run it in less than 30 off the couch. You're looking at around 34 minutes if you pace yourself perfectly, which is right in line for someone with no cardio training. Your 10.5 min/mile pace on the half mile after your first mile is the pace you need to force yourself to start at, and the last 2 won't feel like you're dying. I hope you realize women also tend to undersell themselves to guys to avoid embarrassment. If she mentioned "hoping to do better" this time than her previous 31 minutes, she's going sub 30.

glad you took a test run so you could can an accurate estimate of how difficult it is and not ready some of these olympic bad asses in here.
The majority of 5ks are charity events and bring in average joe blows and your 2-3 local think they pros.
Sub 30 5K is very respectable for anyone that doesn't train or run on the regular.
Its also difficult for anyone straight off the couch, in LA summer heat, and not still living at moms.
a 10 minute mile is a light jog and is moderatly easy. But once you tried to do that back to back to back its not that easy..lol
Its like saying anyone (not obese) should be able to bench their body weight (true). And if you can do that then you can continue to bench that weight again and again with no rest and the weight won't get heavier/harder..

Yeah, this is the best analogy I’ve seen on that subject.
It’s like saying a 1:30 400M is easy, so a 6-minute mile should be a piece of cake

I'd bet my left nut that 95% of the OT couldn't run a 1:30 400m OR a 6 minute mile
ETA: like others have said, OP should come clean and tell her he lied because he wants her. She'll think it's cute.

I was sucking wind after the first mile and somehow was able to make it to 1.5 before I had to stop. I was blazing for the first mile though, with my app telling me I was at a 9.30 pace. Surprisingly, I ran the .5 miles at just over 10 minutes. It felt much slower than a 10 minute pace, but this is my first time doing this, so what do I know. The second half was a disaster. I walked for about 5 minutes to regain my composure and did the rest in intervals. Jog 30 seconds, walk 30 seconds. Overall I went 2.7 miles in about 36 minutes.
RIP, my brethren.
I want to see all these other couch potatoes in this thread saying it was a simple 10min/mile pace post their results.

Birmingham. It's going to be hot, but with a start time of 8am, I'm not too worried about the temperature.
Make sure you fill out your organ donor card before the race. The hospital can salvage the ones that don't fail.
