Yeah, because it’s a lot easier to leave the moon’s gravitation than Earth’s, and because the moon is overflowing with rare earth minerals and mainly an abundance of Helium 3, which can be turned into fuel.

We are lagging behind China in this as well. There are lots of reasons to go to the moon and establish a base there, not the least of which is a man mission to Mars.

Tells me humans are amazing. Can do amazingly productive things. Unfortunately, can do amazingly destructive things, too.

To your point, makes me wonder what God thinks of Artemis and all the good that can come for His creation. While He looks upon Earth and sees the division and hate destruction that flares.

Amazing what we are capable of as evidenced by this event!

I was in a program between my jr/sr year of high school, and lived in a dorm on campus summer of ‘69. As a 16 y.o, I watched the first moon walk from the bowling alley in basement of LSU student union ( it had tvs with the live broadcast, and I could be in there without being 18,,,I didn’t have a fake id yet! ). I remember lots of folks crowded around the tvs, all of us entranced with what we were seeing in that grainy black and white video “one small step….”. One guy watching was a Cuban student, who fervently wanted to be an aeronautical engineer, but his father had sent him to LSU to be an electrical engineer , zero choice for him. His face was a mix of awe and wistfulness, he wanted so badly to be part of the space program. My guess is that he became an electrical engineer and returned to Cuba.

The guts it takes, then and now, to be an astronaut is boundless. A million things can go wrong, most of them leading to tragedy….so to climb into that spaceship, blastoff, and head for the moon, then hope all goes well and you actually return safely….wow. The Apollo 13 mission in 1970 is mind boggling, how they used plastic bags and duct tape to mcguyver a solution to a huge problem…

In my younger days I think I could have done it….We are all “bullerproof” as young adults, aren’t we? Now, I am not sure I would have the courage. What about you?

I wish NASA would sell those astronaut space socks they had on during the mission. I'd pay a good $30 for a pair of outer space-rated astronaut socks with a small NASA logo on them.

I didn't say anything until now because I didn't want to jinx the mission. So cool to see us moving forward again.

I've never understood why we stopped going to the moon. Money. Lack of correct technology. No longer important once we beat the Russians there.

I understand there are different environmental conditions for going to the moon and going to Mars but it always seemed to me that you need to make going to the moon easy then develop new technologies and learn all of the lessons to help going other places easier.

The space shuttle was cool but then things stagnated. Along with the failed missions, I think NASA lost the road map. Then for some reason NASA became a political agency instead of a Space Agency.

Long term we need to get off of this rock and we will never learn how by sitting at home.

Kudos to the brave men and women willing to try.

Except we had an a$$ kicking Republican in the White House putting Russia and China in their place. Now we have an a$$ clown Republican in the White House letting Russia and China pimp us out to the world.

Back then we plowed up the entire lawn in the backyard for a garden to feed the family. Stocked the larder with bulk non perishables like dry beans and rice for at least 6 months to 1 year supplies. Whole family, including the kids, had a job to feed 18% to 22% rates on things like your home mortgage.

The Canary in the Coalmine in the late 60's was this song about elders and youth clashing in the streets about the LA (CA) music scene. Had family there at the time that got free bussing by the LA PoPo from the music clubs to the City Hotel.
