actually quite the opposite… people with addictions are mentally strong. Because it takes someone very strong to keep doing the same thing despite negative consequences and pain. And if they ultimately are able to quit, it is one the hardest things to do in this world… something no one can ever understand unless they or a loved one go through it

If the person can beat the addiction, that person is mentally strong. The odds of one overcoming a serious addictions to the main DOCs is very very low. Sadly low actually.

The last facility I was at had 35ish hard cases. Every single person was a multiple time visitor. I think 2 people are still sober and it’s been almost 5 years. 5 are dead. Everyone else is mia.

You don’t see many old people in rehab I can tell you all that, if you do listen to them. Best advice I can give anyone in that position.

I absolutely despise Casinos. Taking people already down, chewing them up, and spitting them back out with a smile on their face and a free room and some free play.

Why do you hate them for making free money?

How un-American of you

It’s just another avenue (this one is working very quickly) to separate the classes.

It’s all about self control. If you have no self control don’t gamble

Friend,

Gambling has no place in a civilization. Reject the current strain of libertarianism that has infected the American mind. The idea that all should be legal and that community should allow all is an anti-American value introduced by evil interests who seek to destroy the foundation of American society. They value easy money over social responsibility and duty to love neighbor.

Gambling, like drugs such as alcohol, builds nothing of value, adds nothing of substance, and increases only suffering. What community has ever benefitted from gambling? Gambling incapacitates individuals. It tears apart families. It chisels away at the bonds that tie together a community.

My dearest prayer is that your brother turn from the snare of alcohol and gambling and become the person he was created to be.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

I’m watching my brother deal with alcoholism and an addiction to gambling

Do you also hate Jack Daniels and Jim Beam? I have no love lost for casinos but addiction is the root cause here, not an entertainment industry. It sounds like he's just an addictive person.

Prayers up to him getting the help he needs

My dad’s brother was an alcoholic and would gamble his money away. Fortunately, he was single and didn’t have kids, so his behaviors were mostly self destructive. He’d go to work on a boat for weeks, come home, drink and gamble his money away, and then go back to work.
Later in life his health deteriorated and he was able to give up drinking, but by that time, his body was shot.

That stance requires self control to pull off.

one designed to rob you of as much money as possible and build the addiction of not just the games, but the “community” of friendly faces leading you down the path to self destruction.

This is every business model on the planet Earth.

Do you think loyalty perks, rewards, club memberships, recognition levels, benefits, 'freebies', meals, etc are done to show their appreciation for your business? LoL. They want you dialed in, so that you dont mind paying extra, because they treat you so well

Gambling is no different than every other entertainment based enterprise. You own nothing but the experience, when all is said and done. Despite going through thousands of dollars every year

I hate that for your brother. Addiction is a disease.

Hopefully you can get him the help he needs, but he's also going to need to help himself. Hopefully it doesn't take him hitting rock bottom to figure it out. But like someone else said earlier, it sounds like the alcohol addiction is the bigger one to hurdle.

Good luck. You sound like a good brother.

If this were possible there would be no more addiction or alcoholism. It’s not physically possible without help.

You’re just being an a-hole man. Dude is clearly upset over the path his brother is taking.. no reason to kick him while he’s down just because you’re on the internet.

That’s the type of comments that start fights

Am I in the wrong thread, or is this the one where OP wants to decide what businesses should be open because his brother makes poor choices?

White knighting for OP’s brother isn’t going to make him send you a love letter.
