re: I found a 04 Tacoma for $13,900 with only 65,000 miles. Does that sound like a good deal?

$14k for an 04 pre runner is nuts IMO

Those were made of steel. After the 90s they're made from aluminum.

Yeah...that's a sub 10k truck then IMHO. It's a great little truck and if the 65k is legit and all the miles then that truck will have lots of years and many miles left in it. I have not seen a market where a 1st Gen Tacoma with those specs is commanding 13K. It's a great truck with a phenomenal reputation, that is just a lot higher than they typically go for.

You need to ensure that the 65K odometer hasn't been jacked with.

I don't believe any way in hell it has only 65K on it.

It's likely been cut at least once, probably twice.
Carfax it, run the VIN through a Toyota service department, look hard at wear items

Very low miles but I couldn’t pay 14k for a 20 year old vehicle. No idea of it’s a good deal or not

Buy him a Corolla. Kid doesn’t need to be driving a pickup

It showed one owner in Sanford Florida who owned it for 19 years. He didn't drive it much and took it in regularly for maintenance.

My boy sold his 04 that was wrecked for $5,000.00 last month. I think it has 160,000 on the clock and had been ridden hard most of those miles.

That doesn't look very good to me. I bought an 08 Sequoia with 100k (1-owner) 4 years ago for $12k.

Ok, that's a unicorn, and legit.

13900 is all the money, and it'll have a few issues due to age, but it'll be a decent truck.

I had an 2003 for 11 yrs and 250k miles. I traded it in but I wish I would have kept it, I think it would have went another 100k miles. Back then I couldn’t afford insurance and maintenance on an extra vehicle.

I wish I could find an 83 with 4spd manual tranny. Fun little truck to drive.

Tacoma keep their value. I have an 07 with 205,000 miles I'm about to sell for $4500. . It's an access can not a 4 door and the paint is shite.

A 20 year old tacoma is more reliable than most new vehicles.

What's the consensus on the new Tacomas? Are they going to be as reliable as the old ones?

Isn't Toyota now making some Tacomas with a 4 cyl paired with a turbo? I would stay away from those

Not sure if this helps, but I bought an 07 in 2021 with 84,000 miles for $14,000 even. 4x4 but a crew cab. I drive less than 20 miles a day so I intend for it to last quite a while.

Yea that’s a great find and the person you want to buy from.

ETA BUT for a single cab 4cyl stick the price is high IMO.
