You know that a lot of people can't recognize the most popular past or current historical and cultural icons?

In other words, after their 15 minutes of fame, most people will be unrecognizable to the general public.

no, claim prize under a newly formed LLC and let the attorney represent the LLC.

If you win, give me the ticket.

I'll claim it and give you 10% of our winnings and take the publicity heat.

Win-win. This post will serve as our contract, right?

I would move and I guarantee a soul wouldn't know who I am.

There are people in my office building today who didn't know the Powerball is the biggest in history.

Same situation. I haven't heard one person mention the powerball this week.

I think my plan for the $1.5 billion would be to gather the family together, my mom and dad, my brother and sister, and their kids and announce to them that from now on, life as we know it changes.

I wouldn't even spend a whole lot of it.

I would tell them what happened, and tell them, from now on, live without fear. Do the things you want to do in life. Be successful at them. Stand up for what you believe in. I got your back. The days of being controlled by others is over.

If you want a Ferrari, the answer is no. If you want to go to Fiji for a 6 month vacation, the answer is no. If you always dreamed of going to cooking school, I got it. If your dream is to own your own fly-fishing guide business, I got it. If you want to stay home and raise the kids instead of working the two-income model, I got it.

I would use the money to give my family life opportunity, without fear of failing. But I wouldn't just throw it away on material crap.

Why not? It's a drop in the bucket. Freaking travel. If my family wants to travel, I would be happy to pay for it.

Nothing is more precious than awesome memories.

Absolutely. Plus, I think many states have clauses where you have to do (at least limited) promotional appearances as the winner. That said, this country has the collective attention span of an average 2nd grader. You would become virtually anonymous again in about 2 weeks.

you will be expected to share it with everybody you ever met

Why would I give a shite what others "expect" me to do with my money? What are they going to do? Start some facebook campaign using incorrect math? Who gives a shite?

quote:

But every acquaintance, every distant cousin Billy Bob, will be coming and telling you about their problems and asking for money.

Again, who cares? I still have the ability to say no, right? Caveat: I will definitely give whatever it takes to put an end to cat-juggling!

quote:

I think it would be much better to win this kind of money as part of a big group, so you can slink into the background.

I can't think of any problems that could arise from that scenario? That's an invitation for severed relationships and litigation down the line. Greed and envy will ALWAYS prevail. The only time you need a "partner" is if you're forced to eat a bucket of shite. Otherwise, I think I would be pretty capable of handling my own affairs.

of course it is. That's why you have the attorney set it up for you.

the LLC will still have the members/managers (aka owners) as public record. unless you want the attorney to have full control over an LLC that has your money, that is

I would ask my parents to pick a spot they want to go and I would foot the bill. Anywhere they wanted.

Have my parents' and siblings' debts paid.

Move.

Probably go back to school.

I guess this depends how anonymous you want to be, or can be. If you're married with kids living with you, it can be very difficult. But there are ways to do this and it would be very, very difficult for people to know you won the lottery, in plain sight. You can even still go by your birth name (first name, anyway).

quote:

Also, unlike smaller pot winners, you will be expected to share it with everybody you ever met.

Maybe that's why some rich/wealthy people become a-holes... too many people are out to get their money. It's not just lottery winners. A guy I worked with said if he won that every hand reached out to him would get slapped.

But every acquaintance, every distant cousin Billy Bob, will be coming and telling you about their problems and asking for money.

"Who are you? Were you around when I needed help?"

quote:

I don't know, man. Somebody's world is about to be turned upside down. And not all in a good way.

Again, there's many things people can do, but they either don't think of them or don't do it.

There are 536 billionaires in the United States currently.

How many times have you read about billionaires being stalked, having their kids kidnapped for ransom, etc. etc.?

I don't understand all of these scaredy-cats who keep making these chicken little threads. Sack up.
