First of all, despite all of your efforts to maintain anonymity, the media would hunt you down and expose your identity. There would be no hiding. Unlike people who win 50 or 100 million, you will be a celebrity. Your every move will be watched.

Retain attorney. Let attorney make public statement that he is representing the winner, and that you will claim the prize at a later time. He can front you all the money in the world to do whatever you want for a few months. Claim prize later after things have calmed down.

Create a trust or an LLC and have the attorney represent said trust or LLC. Don't tell anyone.

I couldn't tell you the name or location of the last person who took home a massive pot. Sure this is the biggest ever, but you'd be through the news cycle in a matter of weeks.

After that it'd be basically telling various people to frick off. I don't get why some find this would be such a hard task

I barely talk to any of my family as it is. Change your phone number and delete social media accounts and boom.

Henry Paulson made $4 billion in 2007, then in 2010 he made $5 billion (and I've heard those numbers as 7 and 9 respectively). You'd think that would cause riots in the streets, but no one GAF.

If you win the Power Ball and immediately run to the lottery office flapping a ticket around the next morning...you are basically fricked and deserve whatever chaos you receive.

You have 90 days to claim your prize. Get your arse to a reputable bank, get a safety deposit box, toss that winning ticket inside and then spend the next 90 days making arrangements.

Find an accountant who deals with heavy hitters (not a family friend). Find an attorney (also not a family friend).

Decide where you want to live. Find a place. Set-up what charities (if any) get a cut. Decide what family members get what and get it set up via the attorney. Have everything about the new, millionaire you essentially severed from the old you.

Distance yourself from casual friends for a while and decide which extended family you can live with never seeing again (usually most of them.) You will have to make new, rich friends who won't see you as an ATM.

When everything is set up. Waltz into the lottery office and prepare for the flood of news, reporters and fanfare.

Then when you've met every personal appearance obligation the lottery office implies on your ticket. You quietly slip away and onto a chartered flight to your new life.

It's so simple. But then again, not really.

My mom is dead, so I've got 30 on that side that's on me. And that's where things would get tricky. Though I'd be very clear on how things are going to be once I told them. But only would it be impossible to hide it from them, I wouldn't want to. We get together 2-3 times a year because we are a tight, close knit family. I will say, our beer selection for summer canoe trips would dramatically improve.

I would give my dad at least ten million. But his family is small, and all are in solid financial shape. I'd make sure they didn't have debt. But would be much more skeptical of that side, since our relationship isn't very close.

I've lived away from family long enough to know the routine, and how often I hear from people. I'd want to help improve their lives as much as possible, but would have to walk that line to where they don't see me as an atm. If that happens, I'm disappearing into the South Pacific or Caribbean.

I think depending on the state, it's 180 days to a year.

Everything is pretty much spot on, except you have to set up an llc or trust. It will eliminate a lot of unnecessary stress.

I'm pretty sure you don't get all that money at once, I think you get a certain amount every so often. Unless you just tell them you want it all at once

You either get 1.5 billion over 30 years, or a lump sum of 930 million.

I've already solved this problem. Elect to take the annuity, then walk over to JG Wentworth's office, tell him its your money and you want it now, get the full billion minus JG's small cut. Win/win

Whose name is it under?

Once the press finds out, they'll find out, rest assured.

I'd be okay with it. Just have it all put in an anonymous LLC and be Gucci. I'd make sure it's a charitable organization. the chesty foundation, tax free and all
