I can’t be the only one that smells leaking gas on Nicholson between Ben Hur and Lee

It’s been going on for months. Smells more like a leaking gas line than from a plant by how strong it is.

We randomly smell it in our neighborhood too. It's quite noticeable. We called the gas company once and they said they were getting all kinds of reports of the smell around the city. But they had no idea where it was coming from. Not very encouraging.

The rotten egg you smell from a leaking gas service line is an introduced smell so people know of the leak and report it.

They have gas detectors that can track stuff down if the people manning the leak detection teams gave a frick.

We live close to that area. It seems like it’s much more noticeable at night but that may be just me.

They don’t GAF because once they have a confirmed detection it had to be fixed in a certain timeframe. So they ignore them. We lose about a $1B a year from leaks.

Regulated monopoly math.
I used to work for a large utility construction company. We had 80+ operating units across the country doing local gas distribution. We did a program with Xcel where we put sniffers on all our trucks. We loved it because we had the contract to do the fixes. But Xcel had a 48 hour repair policy. We did it for 2 days before they shut it down. Detected over 1000 leaks with about 50 trucks driving around Denver. The call from the program lead was hilarious. He made us shut them down immediately.
