Funny how everyone is shitting on VWs, like half of them don't drive shitty Fords and Dodges.

My dad installed cruise control on a 1970-something Scirocco in 1979/80. I’m sure it can still be done.

The VW earned my shitting on, trust me. Former 2014 CC owner.
I've got 3 Toyotas, 1 Subaru and an old Jeep now.

That's prime breakdown mileage for a VAG product. You will learn how much that car really costs over the next 70k miles.
That car is from the modern era where EVERYTHING is tightly integrated electronically. It will not be trivial to add aftermarket cruise, and could cause all sorts of other issues. Don't do it.
Factory cruise may or may not be another matter. You're not going to find a dealer that will add it for you. Baws suggesting that are still living in the 1970's.
The best option if you must keep the car is to prowl the VW forums for both Jettas and the same generation of Golf (they are mechanically and electronically identical) until you find someone who did it with junkyard parts. It may or may not be easy. Being German, I'd bet on the latter. Be careful about generations, because the Jetta has typically lagged a year or two behind the Golf for refreshes and major upgrades.

I bought a 1985 one when I was 18. Loved it.

Whatever happened to new cars that shut off at red lights? A few years ago, all new cars had that 'feature. Both myself and my girlfriend and have cars bought in 2019 and neither even have the ability to do that.
I'm glad because I thought it was stupid and would have disabled it, but I've noticed that I don't hear other cars doing it at red lights very often these days.

I can’t believe they make cars without cruise.
Just wait until the ignition key cylinder locks up on you, and you find out that only VW dealerships will replace it for hundreds of dollars because locksmiths can't/won't touch a VW.

Federally mandated now, all new cars have it. There are aftermarket defeat switches that turn it off permanently, and you can turn it off manually each time you get in the car.

Nearly every new car does this. Most have a button you push so it won’t. You can also just not fully depress the brake, but still enough to hold car still..and they won’t do it.

Rig up a Navitron 555G marine autopilot under your dash. It can be configured to act as a cruise control, and also provides many other useful features like NMEA output and a high-volume klaxon.

I'm 53 and I don't use cruise control, have never liked it. Tried it when I got my license at 15 years old and never once used it again.
We aren’t all the same.
I’m 48 and every vehicle I’ve ever owned has had cruise/adaptive cruise. It was a must when I bought.
I live and die by cruise until I have to get around certain people whom refuse to set a consistent pace or get out of my way.
And it’s usually in the right lane when I pass.
Spin off thread:
Do we hate non cruise folks or left lane drivers more?
There’s definitely a special hell for a non cruise, slow left lane driving SOB.

You won't have to worry about not having cruise control for long.
I have a 2013 Jetta with just over 100K miles that runs great still. If you take care of shite and always do the routine maintenance the car will run fine.
Repairs do get expensive but I have enjoyed the car.
It has cruise control also. I didn't know they offered models without cruise control.

Rostra Controls makes an add-on kit for your car.

My dad did the same on a Ford Courier pickup. He got the aftermarket cruise control from JC Whitney.

Trade the car in and get adaptive cruise control.

I had an old Jeep Cherokee that didn’t have it. I drove from Texas to Washington, and by the end of the trip my right knee was so fricked it ached for a solid two weeks.

Maybe if I lived in Montana or W. Texas I might feel different. I commuted to LSU from Lafayette while in college. While traffic wasn't nearly as bad back then I still would never have engaged it in that stretch. Today I don't see how you could use it in that stretch of I10 and most of the way to FL. With the exception of LA state line to Gulfport.

Cruise control is a must for me. It will certainly help not getting any tickets.
