kind of how the boomers got taken in in the '60's, Chicago 7, SDS, Yippie movement, all the way down to Manson were all of the "older" generation

To the guy who was talking about how hard his generation had it, unless he literally graduated during the brief 2-3 year downturn in the early 80s, I highly doubt unemployment was at 11%.
Before that though, they had it pretty damn good. Hell, after that, right up until the 2008 collapse, unemployment stayed fairly low.
The last five years, prior to now (despite only wanting to look at this year), have been one of the worst stretches in US history.
If you disagree, just look at the numbers (and this is without delving into things like Actual Unemployment and Underemployment).
The numbers.
If you knew people waiting tables with Master's Degree, then they were probably idiots; got a degree in something worthless; or shouldn't have had to wait too long until an opportunity arose. Then there's the case of a one-off incident that's not actually a representative of the whole--which seems to be what this is.
As someone pointed out above, it also likely cost significantly less than it does now.
Ay any rate, the Baby Boomers like to act like they were the ones who went through the Great Depression and WWII when it was actually their parents.

Each generation has its own merits, but the problem of labeling groups like this is that some of the claims just don't hold water for every example.

Nah, bro. They all worked way harder than we did. We're just lazy. We don't even want high paying jobs because video games, rap music, facebook and the twitter. You're spoiled and wouldn't have cut it back in the day.

I love how people in this thread are stereotyping entire generations as if everyone born in a certain time frame all think and act the same. Do you understand how ridiculous that is? This entire thread is a microcosm of how absurd stereotypes have divided American society. Stop fighting, folks. Whether you like it or not, you all share a common enemy and it is not your neighbor. One of the biggest problems with human nature is how damn greedy and selfish we all are. Not proposing socialism by any means, but if we collectively made a concerted effort to make the world a better place for the next generation, which takes a bit of sacrifice, then this world would be a much better place. Once we reach a certain age, we need to do whatever we possibly can to get the youth on the right track in this country. They are the future. As a millennial - I hope we fight for this, even if we were dealt a shitty hand. Let's make the conditions in America better for those who come after us, not worse.
You say we shouldn't stereotype - and I agree for the most part. However, when 60% of Congress/Senate are made up of boomers, and this country continues to spiral out of control with no real direction with a deficit getting worse every day (the ridiculous spending really pisses me off) it's tough not to.
