Congrats OP.

Alcohol at its core is literally poison. Poison that kills your liver, dehydrates you, ruins your skin, mentally imbalances you and makes you do dangerous and dumb shite that isolates you from your family and friends.

Like we did with smoking before we eventually wised up and got smart, We try to tell ourselves alcohol is harmless and we can control it but eventually it still wins in the end when it’s able to establish a beachhead in your mind.

Congrats brother I’ve been clean & sober since 12/27/87 when I checked myself into treatment. Even after 33+ yrs, the most important day is today. Reach out to me if you need any support or want to talk sobriety

One day at a time, baw.

Page 151:

quote:

For most normal folks, drinking means conviviality, companionship and colorful imagination. It means release from care, boredom and worry. It is joyous intimacy with friends and a feeling that life is good. But not so with us in those last days of heavy drinking. The old pleasures were gone. They were but memories. Never could we recapture the great moments of the past. There was an insistent yearning to enjoy life as we once did and a heartbreaking obsession that some new miracle of control would enable us to do it. There was always one more attempt - and one more failure.

The less people tolerated us, the more we withdrew from society, from life itself. As we became subjects of King Alcohol, shivering denizens of his mad realm, the chilling vapor that is loneliness settled down. It thickened, ever becoming blacker. Some of us sought out sordid places, hoping to find understanding companionship and approval. Momentarily we did - then would come oblivion and the awful awakening to face the hideous Four Horsemen - Terror, Bewilderment, Frustration, Despair. Unhappy drinkers who read this page will understand!

Getting sober was the best decision of my life. So grateful for my sobriety and all you crazy OT bastards who make me laugh every day!!! Hope you all have a great day.

I'm going to get drunk while bowling in a few hours today but I will think about you tomorrow. Not mocking you at all. People sharing recovery stories are great reminders to be so thankful we don't have that awful disease.

Congratulations, buddy. Keep fighting the good fight.

So you are suggesting that drinking flammable liquids is not a good thing.

Nice work! Some will chime in that alcohol is the best etc. but when you are outside of its grip life is a lot easier.

I wish. That's next year's goal. Hopefully I'm back here this time next year saying that I'm not only 2 years sober, but also 50+ pounds lighter as well!!!

Keep it up! Good for you. I’m almost 5 years sober, and it’s the greatest.
