How many toll roads in MS? Also their gas tax is about the same as LA
I10 is about to be 6 lanes for most of MS

Mississippi just raised their gas tax from 18 cents to 24 cents.
Louisiana is sitting at 16 which hasn’t changed since 1989.

Interstates are federal.
Louisiana has money, but chooses what to do with it, very poorly. As has been the case since at least the 90s.

I did and here's what I found.
Louisiana has an estimated $18.9 billion backlog in state highway and bridge needs, including:
- Resurfacing
- Structurally deficient bridges
- Safety improvements
- Congestion relief
- Capacity expansion
Compared to Mississippi -
Mississippi's FY2026 MDOT budget is approximately $1.48 billion, nearly double Louisiana's DOT operating budget and approaching Louisiana's overall highway program despite having roughly 1.7 million fewer residents.
Why Mississippi often feels like it's investing more:
- Lottery revenue
- Additional fuel tax funding
- Consistent legislative appropriations
LADOTD is not priority in Louisiana, but the Pogey boats are.

I drive it often and always know to get in the left lane. It's nuts though because left lane is doing 80mph or more while the right lane is slamming on their brakes. And don't get me started on the lane weavers.

I think I-49 and I-20 is worse. If you are going north on 49 and then you try to go east on 20, you have to quickly slide over 3 lanes as soon as you get on 20. If traffic is heavy, that can be pretty difficult.

Nothing is worse than the left hand entrance onto I-12 East in Livington Parish.
18 wheeler didn't want to let me in and I had to gun it while running out of real estate.
