That is going to be a major, major problem for the trucking industry - i40 is a major route for freight and that antiquated 1 lane turn crap they've got at the TN side of the bridge is just going to be a nightmare for all of that traffic going across.

Am I the only one here who looks forward to watching the mayhem unfold on google maps at rush hour tomorrow?

The BR bridge is 53 years old, and considering the constant congestion and parking lot it becomes at rush hour, it’s only a matter of time before I’d imagine we are royally screwed.

The old Huey P cannot take that kind of traffic and would be super sketchy to traverse for any significant amount of time to serve as a viable alternative for I-10 traffic. I suppose you could use Sunshine temporarily if need be to divert, but getting there via LA1 would be an enormous mess going through one horse towns and an infrastructure woefully inadequate to deal with that kind of traffic. New Roads bridge, same same.

Shhhhh this is Louisiana. We can just pretend these issues don’t exist and they’ll never come back to bite.

This will start happening regularly. The bridges in the UcSA have been neglected for many decades.

Is this going to impact Memphis’ number 1 export, new episodes of the first 48?

Drove home from downtown taking I-55. Can attest it’s a total clusterfrick. The morning commute will be an adventure.

The surface streets in downtown Memphis will be lighter than normal. It’s just getting to downtown that will be arse tomorrow.

It's functionally obsolete...but they did refurbish the structure a few years back.

So it could, in theory, be functionally obsolete for 60 more years before it collapses into the river.

In Tennessee there's the new I-155 bridge more than half the way to Kentucky.

TDOT Smartway map shows a lot of congestion without really telling the reason the bridge is closed.

All River traffic has been halted until this situation is resolved as well.

New as is 1976?

If anyone is heading through Memphis on I-40 during the day it’ll probably make sense to go around to the north up I-55 and back down I-155/Highway 412.

Just a little crack, looks superficial. Just needs some J-B weld and a good buff.
