You want to see an epic cluster. This will be it. Old 55 Bridge can’t handle the traffic load.

quote:

The I-40 bridge is shutting down due to emergency roadwork. According to Dave Parker with ARDOT, routine inspection revealed a crack in the structure of the bridge.

quote:

Construction crews will not be allowed on the bridge and will use drones to assess the damage, Parker confirmed. The I-40 bridge will be shut down until further notice.

Depending on the nature of the crack, this could have been catastrophic. Or not.

Well, my time went so quickly

I went lickety-splitly

Out to my ol' 55

As I pulled away slowly

Feeling so holy

God knows I was feeling alive

They have two bridges like 2 miles apart. They'll be fine.

There is a ton of traffic over both of those bridges every day, especially during rush hour. With all of the logistics in Memphis, this will be noticed

That one lane cloverleaf interchange where I-55 north makes the turn onto the bridge to go across the river will be an absolute shite show until this is over.

Thank God Louisiana doesn’t have this issue with our infrastructure, especially on major interstate bridges in cities like Baton Rouge and Lake Charles. Our political class is top-notch and has excellent foresight. We are truly blessed.

It's time to build an I-40 2.0 that will avoid the cities and the road closing landslides in the Smokies and now the clog called Memphis. Also called Oklahoma City clog, Albuquerque clog, etc.

This is bad. That bridge is the most heavily trafficked freight bridge in the country. Now all that traffic will be diverted to the 55 bridge which was either built by the Romans or aliens, no one knows for sure

Yes and it’s a marvel of planning and engineering. The way it was the only major interstate bridge that narrows to one lane anywhere in America creating a permanent bottleneck resulting in tens of millions of lost productive hours was a true master stroke.

The perfect solution to this would be building a new bridge for i69 somewhere between Memphis and Greenville (my vote would be clarksdale), but they keep pussyfooting around and act like they’ll just use the Greenville bridge.

It’s 2 lanes actually going northbound. You’re correct though when going southbound. I’d imagine though that being 2 lanes northbound would be negated from having that many vehicles slowing down to around 25 mph and turning to get to the bridge.
