I mean the DA's name in that area is "Bofill" so coordinating a speed trap racket with local police is probably all he is good for. Need to send a donation to his and the sheriff's opponents in upcoming elections if you want that shite to stop.

Henderson has been doing this for many years.

I got a Henderson ticket once and showed up for the court date to contest the ticket. It was on a Wednesday night at like 7:30. When I got to the location, it was closed, lights off. I called the next day and was told that I was found guilty by the officer on the highway and that I had to just pay.

I contacted the state agency that reports tickets on the database where the insurers get notice and they said they don't post anything from Henderson.

After a couple weeks I spoke with the then-mayor, Sherbin Collette. We agreed I would give him $20 and the ticket would be cancelled. Last I heard of it.

Or you could just quit speeding.

Yes, this is what basically ended the I49 speed trap in Washington. They can write a ticket but if it's less than 10mph over the limit all the money goes direct from to the state. They can keep the money if it's 10+ over.

Don't forget that LACE doesn't give any points for an officer writing a ticket under 10 MPH over as well. That's important, because no points no overtime reimbursement.

Drove all across Ireland for a week while on vacation about 6 years ago and didn’t see a single police car the whole time.

Wouldn’t that be nice - 0 speed traps nation wide.

In defense of any sheriff, his office’s take on traffic tickets is about $5 or $10 bucks. Everyone in the courthouse and several other agencies get a slice. Clerk, parish government, crime labs, etc.

LACE is another animal. DA gets the bulk and troopers do well.

Game wardens, probation/parole, prison guards get shaft while troopers make bank. Glorified ticket writers who might work a wreck if deputies do much of the work.

They should just call it a speed tax.

They should be allowed to offer you to pay the ticket for a discounted rate at the traffic stop with a credit/debit card and forgo any court action or impact on your insurance.

You should quit assuming someone is guilty of speeding just b/c they despise the money grab tactics. I don't exceed the posted speed limit on I-10 unless passing in the left lane.
I also hate the laws that foster prosecuting people for murder when a friend Overdoses. Yet I don't do the drugs.

Isn't there a law now that locals can't write a ticket for less than 10 MPH on the interstate? Only Troopers? I think that's a thing.

They can still write the ticket but it’s something with the fines/court.

I believe they can’t put it in their mayor’s court and the fine instead goes to the general fund.

ETA: what YOURADHERE said.

If it's Henderson cops or St Martin sheriff you can get it reduced to non moving and just pay the fine.

So, this morning I began my usual commute to B.R. on 1-10. I could not help but notice that St. Martin Sheriff, Becket Breaux, Henderson, LA mayor, Sue Dupuis, and Henderson police chief, Jared Johnson have begun a traveler "shakedown" by having 5 "officers" (really tax collectors) in a 5 mile stretch, pulling over travelers in a overt money grabbing scheme, disguised as a "safety" initiative. These people are totally out of control. Travel to any other state and you will not see anywhere close to the amount of police shaking down travelers. Everyone should boycott all businesses in St. Martin parish since they have decided to generate revenue by police harassment. Sorry for the rant but Louisiana sucks in so many other ways, why do we have to be know as the speed trap state. Peace

First off, of the three elected officials you named only 1 is correct so I doubt that if you can't get that right after so obviously researching data for a thorough post to call out these individuals, you're probably pretty dense and have a hard time understanding the speed limit and how to keep at or under it with your car speed.

Secondly, if you traveled the basin bridge often and have seen some of the things that others who do see, you would have no problem with law enforcement pulling speeders over on that dangerous stretch of interstate.

Thirdly, if you or any other posters are commercial truck drivers who continue to drive in the left lane on the basin bridge frick you.

Becket Breaux makes his deputies wear those god awful cowboy hats. I saw a guy who probably weighed a 120 lbs with a ridiculously large cowboy hat on his head. Thought he was going to tip over.

Washington was writing tickets for like 73 in a 70.

Like he said, it has to be at least 10 over for them to keep the money. It just means they write the tickets for at least 10 over. If it's less than 15 over, the St Martin prosecutor will do a diversion. So Henderson at least writes the tickets for 15 over so they'll keep the money. I got pulled over doing 8 over and they wrote it for 15 over.

Sherbs is still the mayor. I had to go to court there years ago when my ex wife and I had rental property. One of my tenants didn't pay so we evicted him, we both got summoned to court. I show up, he doesn't. Sherbin had to audactiy to ask me to call the guy to see if he was coming. I just ignored him.
