This is great. I’m hopeful they’ll take advantage of the fact they’re located relatively close to some of the world’s best quality met coal mined in Alabama.

I'm sure their boilers and generators will be natural gas. It's cheap and in abundance locally.

Wondering if the new admin will enable the coal units at some of the power plants in south Louisiana to stay online.....that would be great especially if all these data centers really get built.

The good ole days are long behind us.

Except they're not. Poverty, lack of education, corruption, litigation, and riding behind a cane truck will all still be in the life of everyone in S. Louisiana for the foreseeable future.

Just like the good ole days.

Damn. I hate to hear that. There’s a lot of good quality met coal being mined in Alabama. But almost all of it is barged down to Mobile to be shipped to China where they use it in their mills. I’d much rather it be used here in the US.

Any idea how much natural gas a steel mill consumes per day?

i imagine they will have a thermal oxidation unit to burn off their process waste

talking about a few million btu/hour to run that unit for a plant like that

A hell of a lot.
They use even more electricity.
If they are going to have a melt shop, they are going to need electric arc furnaces.
Maybe they will build their own NG power plant on site?

I am sure some watermelon (green on outside, red in inside) environmental group will enlist some locals to claim (without a single shred of proof) their slave ancestors are buried wherever the location of the project will be.

Meanwhile, in Seoul a mid level Hyundai executive excitedly tells his wife he’s in contention for a big job overseas in a little village in America that is so impressive that it’s been named after Donald Trump.

I work for a Korean company and have several expat employees. I’m always shocked at how much they love rural America and how quickly they adapt, settle down and don’t want to go back. We have a bunch in rural Georgia and it’s funny to watch them turn into rednecks so quick.

This is great news. Landry while far from perfect is light years better than JBE. The new LED secretary is top notch. If Landry would just focus on crime and economy and ditch the trial lawyers then we actually may turn this state around still a vast improvement over JBE

Ever seen those Korean persimmons? They're the size of apples.

East or west side of the river. "North of Donaldsonville" could mean anything from Darrow (right across the river) the huge bend in the river northwest of D-ville (the farming land between it and White Castle).

Both of those areas have lots of farm land but would need a lot of extra infrastructure to support that much work and that many workers (ie: DOTD needs to be looking at this NOW, not ten years after it's complete).

The Advocate is already gearing up for their stories of how they want to build this new steel mill over the top of once believed slave burial grounds.

Most companies don’t want to deal with the fly ash generated by coal.

I had to Google that because they always call it "gam". Yeah i've had it a few different ways on my trips to Seoul. They like it almost as much as Soju beer bombs and smoking.

Nice, that will be closer than Osceola Arkansas where I've had men working for 2+ years at BRS.

I know that town has had some major investment from the steel industry. That's been going on since I lived in Memphis 10-15 years back.

I don't know if this will be bigger or smaller than that.

From what I understand, it's on the west side of the river. Hopefully we can get that bridge built before I see the grave....
