Not raising the winds to major at the 10 pm the night before Ida was one the biggest mistakes I can remember from the NHC.
I didn't leave until around 6am the morning of Ida. I woke up, opened the thread, and told the wife to pack a bag and let's gtfo. I offered to pick my parents up on the way and they declined because "we rode out Katrina." When we finally got phone service they told me they'll never do that again.

Yeah it's almost like this site has more Houston posters than it does in the Florida bend

unless you know the storm is going to be a pussy the best thing to do when you are in the path of it is to make a vacation out of it, and don't come back until all power is restored and everything is reopened

Cajun navy is experienced with the aftermaths of hurricanes
The coon arse navy is not. In fact I’ve never heard of the coon arse navy
For every one’s safety please let the experts do what they do. The coon arse navy should stand down

Any word on who will be live streaming yet? Is Reed heading down?

Unfortunately for Florida, the hurricane is passing over some deep waters which are among the hottest in the world-- along long 85W and between the 25th and 28th parallel. In the past 20+ years, every hurricane that develops in August and September that passes over those waters is a monster when it comes ashore.
Where did you copy and paste that from?

Some of the early morning hurricane models…
They all seem to be in agreement that Idalia strengthens all the way up to landfall.

Thats what every storm hitting the US does these days

Definitely, but unfortunately the financials of this aren’t easy for many to swallow.

Anybody seeing the models where they have it going out to the Atlantic then circling around and then back across Florida then back across again?

Let’s see if you can get a Katrina 18th Anniversary Thread stickied.

the coast around Myrtle has been hit hard with surge.
No.
Last real hurricane to alter the SC coast happened back in 1989.
SC is way overdue for a direct hit by a major hurricane.
Frankly, the entire East Coast is overdue compared to what the Gilf of Mexico side has been suffering with the past 25 years or so.

Wouldn't be the first time.
First one that comes to mind is 04 Ivan did exactly that.
Crossed around Gulf Shores, went out into Atlantic came back across Florida and hit Texas as a minimal tropical system

I'm sure your place in the Cape will be fine. Models currently put it barely in ts force winds. If it made it through Michael I think it will probably survive this. If you needed someone to check on it after let me know

On the west edge of the peninsula the roads are almost impossible after a big thunderstorm or king tide. Not sure I wanna see what a deluge, winds, and high tide all bring.
Yeah it doesn’t take much. What part do you live in?
