We'd be much better off with a sustained steady rain/drizzle. Like 2-3 days of off and on rain.

100%

2-3 inches of rain in a short period of time, right now, wouldn't be good.

When that was posted last night there was no real sign of a storm in the Gulf during the timeframe mentioned. It was a strange post.

So the orange cone the NHC has issued for possible development along with the Euro and GFS showing weak depression moving into Florida mid to late next week doesn't qualify....lol

Probably the NHC was taking some heat from social media and other meteorologists for not putting something out there that it could form.

I know they just started doing 7 day forecasts, but now sometimes it feels like when two clouds start spinning in the tropics, it gets a name or hashed circle of uncertainty.

I think they are going to start tuning people out from all the chicken little calls.

I remember a tropical storm two or three years ago that "formed" south of the Fla panhandle. (Sorry, I don't remember the name.)

The only convection associated with it was far to the west south of Gulfport/Biloxi and was a small band of clouds. The circulation was visible only because there were some light cirrus-type clouds around the center of circulation.

As I recall, the NWS finally gave up after a few days of wishcasting and said it "dissipated" off the SE Louisiana coast. It never formed a circular convection.

I remember there were numerous emojis in the Hurricane Season thread on this board at that one being called a tropical storm.

looks like a cold front moving through on Tuesday will protect the northern gulf coast on this one

yea but the chances of that happening are not too good unless you just catch the edge of a tropical system

The next significant rain that anyone in LA is going to get is going to be afternoon thunderstorms that is going to have high rainfall rates

It won’t bring cold temps, but at least it looks like we’ll get some rain

When it is so dry and the ground is baked like it is makes it act similar to concrete or asphalt. Rain water doesn't readily soak in, it just runs off. The risk of flash flooding increases with storms during drought because of that.
