U.S. Naval Research Laboratory ocean-floor pressure sensors
Does anyone else think how absurdly cool it is for them to determine wave heights from floor pressure sensors?
Makes you wonder what else they can do. The Atlanta and Pacific sonar nets themselves were impressive and that’s ~50-60 year old technology.

I checked Vesselfinder and at least no ships are anywhere close. We don’t want any of this happening

That is all your ignorant take warranted.
Do tell, what about my take do you disagree with?
Seriously curious, educate me with your legendary take.
Sighing as I await your response.

It was barely a Cat 1 at landfall, possibly just at tropical storm strength.
Sigh......
EDIT: I know the storm did a lot of damage but what has always rubbed me the wrong way is how the northeast media labeled the storm "Super Storm Sandy" because they couldn't call it Hurricane Sandy as it came ashore because it wasn't a hurricane at that time. And if they called it Tropical Storm Sandy it would not have sounded dramatic enough for them especially since the storm hit the media capital of the U.S.
Hence they created a new term for the storm...the Super storm.

Look at the upwelling of cooler water from beneath the surface. It’s hard to comprehend how much wave and wind action is needed to move that much water.

Considering the Navy knew immediately what happened when that submarine popped, I'd say there isn't much of significance out there that they miss.

Weather Channel is treating Erin like it’s about to wipe out the east coast. They have reporters up and down the beach. Guy just said it’s game day.
They should be ashamed of themselves.

They are getting everyone practice so they'll be ready to go for the next big storm

Ok. It still had massive impacts. Erosion, flooding, power outages, blizzard conditions in the appalachian mountains with 3 feet of snow.

And yet the Northeast had the "ME" arrogance to name it "SuperStorm" when in fact was just a Tropical Storm

Pretty impressive hurricane on the perfect track to have minimal impact on land areas.

Another buoy with 30 foot significant waves. Buoy is about 250 miles south of Cape Hatteras, NC and center is about 125 miles SE of the buoy.

Nice find on the live feed.
The seas are currently 13 feet there with the center about 300 miles to the SE. Closest point of approach should be sometime this evening and waves should get a bit higher.

That system just off the west coast of Africa is concerning.
It's staying just south enough to make it approach the mid-islands and then to guide it into the Gulf of Mexi....uh....Amer...ah.....Louisiana.
