Been through plenty. More than most, even on this board. 130+ is terrible but most structures in Florida are built to take it. There won't be power and it's going to be miserable but the amount of people who die from hurricane winds is almost zero. The surge is the real lethal danger. The people that live in the low elevations close to the water need to be given priority to get out. Storm surge is a certain killer, high winds are not. It's a simple numbers game.
Lot of words to just tell everyone you are an idiot.

I just convinced a friend of mine in Tampa to get out. He’s never experienced a true hurricane and for whatever reason was thinking it won’t be as bad as they say. I told him it’s nothing to mess with and told him what the cops go around telling people who refuse to leave Grand Isle or Cameron Parish. Write your name and SSN on a piece of paper, put it in a zip loc bag, and stuff it in your pocket so they can identify your body after the storm. Tampa is going to be engulfed by the Gulf.

Right. All those folks in the higher elevations of FLORIDA are going to be fine.

Where did I say anything about chest beating. Tampa Bay is a massive Metropolitan area. There's no way everyone can evacuate in time. Not even close. I'm suggesting that the priority go to those who are definitely going to drown if they're still stuck when the surge comes ashore.

What’s your elevation?
After seeing the aftermath of Michael and Katrina at the coastline the idea of staying is tough for me to process.

Not even close.

I doubt if Ted Cruz is working on his Yuca-Tan today

By your logic the able bodied near the coast should climb up the the top of palm trees so the less able bodied can evacuate. Its a numbers game.

Agreed . Had the unfortunate luxury of riding out Michael in gulf county. It was horrific and probably one of the scariest things I've ever been through. If you think you've seen what a hurricane can do, you haven't been in a 5. Nothing survives. Codes be damned. If you stay for that there's a high chance you will be injured or possibly worse.

Highest elevation in Tampa is 48 ft above sea level.

The National Weather Service in Tampa stated in their forecast discussion earlier this afternoon that, if Milton follows the current projections, it will likely be a hurricane unlike anything Tampa has experienced in 100 years.
