Doc's was wrecked by Ian. 2 years to come back.
On the beach restaurant, under multiple feet of surge from Ian. They built a fort of sandbags for Helene, while residents nearby were covered in 1'+ of sand. They should have kept that fort as a permeant structure.

STORM SURGE: A storm surge will raise water levels by as much as 4
to 6 feet above ground level along the northern coast of the
Yucatan Peninsula in areas of onshore winds. Near the coast, the
surge will be accompanied by large and destructive waves.
The combination of a dangerous storm surge and the tide will cause
normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters
moving inland from the shoreline. The water could reach the
following heights above ground somewhere in the indicated areas if
the peak surge occurs at the time of high tide...
Anclote River, FL to Englewood, FL...10-15 ft
Tampa Bay...10-15 ft
Englewood, FL to Bonita Beach, FL...6-10 ft
Charlotte Harbor...6-10 ft
Yankeetown, FL to Anclote River, FL...5-10 ft
Bonita Beach, FL to Chokoloskee, FL...4-7 ft
Suwannee River, FL to Yankeetown, FL...3-5 ft
Chokoloskee, FL to Flamingo, FL...3-5 ft
Flagler/Volusia County Line, FL to Altamaha Sound, GA...3-5 ft
Sebastian Inlet, FL to Flagler/Volusia County Line, FL...2-4 ft
Altamaha Sound, GA to Edisto Beach, SC...2-4 ft
Dry Tortugas...2-4 ft
St. Johns River...2-4 ft

That eye got tightly organized really fast. I was watching it on radar yesterday morning.

I have been down your way Reauxl - stayed at the Hilton across from the soccer stadium. really liked it down that way and really hope everything ends up ok there.
Yeah downtown is becoming quite the place to be. The transformation over the last 10 years I’ve been here has been amazing to see.
All these neighborhoods are getting WRECKED though. Old Northeast, Snell Isle, Shore Acres, everything to the south and then the beaches too. Everything is getting hammered. Really weird time around here right now.
Pretty much everyone around here has been trying to figure out when and where to buy a house, or they’ve already done it and they’re without a house now.

905 and 180 is pretty damn insane.
Another plane is on the way.

The absolute worst would be if it jogs north and the bottom/bottom right quadrant is what goes into St Augustine and Tampa Bay.

North/west side of the storm is the threat for the east coast. St. Augustine would have water pushing out in that scenario
um, you have that backwards
a storm heading toward the eastern gulf coast, the south side is the bad side.
passing just north of Tampa has the surge pushing straight up into the bay.
if it passes south of the bay, then it would be pushing water out.

If you were concerned about flooding in someone’s area, maybe this will help.
During the Helene thread, someone relayed a story from a previous storm where their family didn’t want to leave. They went to their parents home and said well goodbye. I love you. I hope to see you after this comes through. That got the family to leave.
Maybe also just throw out the comment about writing their Social Security number somewhere on their body so that they can be identified.
Good luck to everyone in this past. You all are in my prayers.
