Do sand bags actually help anything?

A jog north does NOT save Tampa.

Tamps needs it to go south, that way the winds are pushing out of the bay, not into it.

Curious what the likes of Disney/Universal can sustain if this follows the predicted course and goes right over them.
I’m curious if Disney will have staff dressed as Lootie and NOPD to steal TVs from the Port Orleans Resort guestrooms.
It’s the small details that really make the magic.

Depends on her elevation how dangerous staying will be.
She is in flood zone C. She started that the lead Charlotte County people are advising people in her zone to stay. But the county has a mandatory evacuation for A and B. She hasn't gotten water on her road previously and her house is somewhat elevated. They are only about 5 miles from the Gulf (as the crow flies). She practically stuck now and I can't convince them to leave. They are taking in additional people now. It's crazy..

My wife has an aunt and uncle just north of Tampa in Odessa that are staying put. They may regret that decision.

Quick question here.
Did i hear that currently its a Cat5, but by the time it makes landfall it will be a Cat2/3?
I thought that normally they build up speed and then when they hit land thats what slows them down. Why is this one different? Or did i hear wrong?

Shear and dry air are supposed to weaken the storm shortly before landfall

Done properly, yes absolutely. I've helped save many houses by sandbagging.
Most people have no fricking clue what they are doing and in those cases, no. It does absolutely no good if it leaks it's arse off, falls over, etc.

Correct.
The absolute worst would be if it jogs north and the bottom/bottom right quadrant is what goes into St Augustine and Tampa Bay.

Outlier
I spend an aweful lot in Insursnce from windstorm and flood, with some property uninsurable because it’s smack dab on the water.
I used to work a chainsaw like it was nothing. I’d cut my trees out and go spend the rest of the day cutting neighbors, but it just wears me out now and I don’t really feel like dealing with it.
Insurance claims suck too.
I feel for these folks in Tampa. God bless them

Once they hit Cat 5, it becomes hard to sustain that so they typically weaken.
