Being east of I-75 protects us (Zone B - Zone A is west of us, just across the interstate).

I have no idea what that means.

1) when was your house built? Like did you build way post code? Idk anything about codes there.

2) was it super pricey to build to whatever standards you built?

Then quit complaining about me not leaving. Make fun of me all you want. Let's get back to those who are facing a historic storm. And yeah, I am one of them.

Gris Gris, we are in Zone B, which was given a mandatory evac today, along with zone A. The only line that separates us from being in zone A is I-75, Everything to our west is zone A. We are 50 yards to the east from I-75. It actually kind of acts like a barrier.

Pretty considerable weakening in the last update and big pressure increase from 897 to 914. I thought the more intense convection was gonna propel it to strengthening closer to 200 mph

Question for you hurricane smart folk. Does a tropical system weaken over land only when its actual eye is over land or when any of its ‘core’ is over land? i.e. does this brush with Mexico even affect it intensity wise? Sorry if already discussed but I’m not reading 105 pages

Primarily the core. Land interaction has some weird impacts, but many storms strengthen or maintain all the way up to landfall then immediately start to weaken.

This will allow the storm to grow in size, and then we will probably see another RI episode as it moves NE across the loop current

I would assume she has a larger vehicle .. sleep in the car in a Walmart parking lot in Miami if you have to.

Don't stay and drown.

The core is probably small enough that it wasn't impacted by the approach and passing near the Yucatan. However, the latent heat processes could have been disrupted by the outer bands passing over the Yucatan, which may have triggered the apparent ERC.

An interstate acts like a barrier from a category 5 hurricane???

It is going to stomp Cancun's arse on the way by, just for grins.

I'm hoping all those giant condos on the beach slow this thing down, like Cuba's mountains.

exactly - I mean I have 6 kids, too, so I understand the hotel expense, the food expense, etc - but you can’t just stay.

Please don't take this off the rails. Have these attack ads by this Democrat against Rick Scott been going on for weeks or is this bitch really politicizing people's impending misery?

Having lived in Bonita Springs (west of I75) I think you will be OK from surge on the east side of 75. But then again, it's possible that enough surge could go up the Imperial to flood the east side of 75.

If I still lived there, I would leave early AM and go to Miami. And have dinner tomorrow night in Coconut Grove.
