you're under mandatory evacuation, Insurance will cover a hotel. While they were miserable, we were in Houston in the sun for 3 days. Of course we came home to a mess, but if it's covered, why not leave.

I’ve never met anyone who regrets evacuating.

I have an 80 year old aunt in Miramar. She’s riding it out but you can’t tell this woman anything.

Is she bayside or on the gulf?

Gulf is way above sea level so storm surge isn’t an issue but the houses in the neighborhoods near the bay are in trouble depending on elevation.

I don't see how Okaloosa and Western Walton county avoid a big surge. Parts of Destin especially along the harbor will be completely under.

Lots of friends over there I’d say half stayed.

If your house is out of the surge zone and built for S FL code without trees you’re probably fine as long as you don’t mind losing power for awhile.

Yeah. It doesn’t look so tilted anymore. Looks like it’s becoming more vertically stacked.

It would be a miserable experience with every fire alarm for miles and miles going off at every condo. Probably 20 people stayed during Sally at my place in Orange Beach. All the cars were stacked up on each other because the parking lot flooded.

Thankfully, my house in Pensacola is 79 ft above sea level, I’ll probably be without power for 3-4 days.

Zone 2 about a half block from the beach but base elevation is 28'. Home was built 7 years ago so its a tank. We have a whole home generator so the neighbors moved all their stuff to my freezers and will likely be spending the next week living there. I'm back in LA so they can stay as long as they need.

We were at the San Destin Hilton when a TS or Cat 1 rolled in a long time ago. There wasn't much of a storm surge, and we went and hung out on the beach when the eye was passing through. It was all over in a few hours. I think there was a suggested evacuation, nothing mandatory, and the hotel staff said they had stayed open through far worse conditions than were expected.

I have participated in a mandatory evacuation in southeast Texas when the storm hit somewhere else and it didn’t even rain at the place I left. Car loaded with kids and dogs. I guess if OT counts, you can count me as one that evacuated and regretted it.

While not on the top level, there was a storm chaser that stayed for Katrina in the Beau Rivage Parking garage for the duration of the storm.

The video is on YouTube. It is crazy to think how high the surge got there seeing the water near the traffic lights.

James Spann and the Alabama Weather Network are now doing live coverage and will pretty much stay live for the duration as Isaias makes landfall and moves up through Alabama.
