CAT4 Hurricane Irma - Hurricane Warnings Hoisted for S. Florida by upstate
question slack. Im in Greenville, SC. We are in the far right of the cone, but looks like the storm will be really weak and the eye should be on the GA/AL border when it gets here. Im supposed to fly out Sunday night but don't want to leave the family... now Im thinking we should be in pretty good shape. Am I off if it continues on that projected path? Many thanks
Bump this. Daughter goes to school in Greenville. Thanks for info.

Rummy, its time to start the thread where you permaban the "OMG the track shifted 10 miles West" idiots, the idiots busting Peej's balls, and Peej so that the people who know what the frick they're talking about can get info to people who need it without all the OT nonsense.
It's getting closer to go time.
It's getting closer to go time.

If Irma is slamming into Naples, FL on Sunday morning, Greenville shouldn't have much to worry about. The concern there would be an earlier turn, and you'll know if that happens in plenty of time.

I know this is a LA board and LA is certainly entitled to have abnormally heightened concern about hurricanes, but the chicken littling in this thread is detracting from what is actually happening

Just saying, extreme coastal Louisiana can get inundated/cut off really easily. This thing skirting the gulf coast of Florida could easily push enough tidal waters that way to make it at least uncomfortable and/or unable to get out for a day or two in a place like Venice.
The winds along coastal Louisiana will be around 20 knots max from the Northeast. If its East wind around 25 knots for 3 days in a row, YES. But not from the Northeast.

But the shifting of Irma's track relative to the model projections feels a lot like Katrina.
It has been explained over and over how this is not Katrina and how the situations are not similar. It can feel like Katrina but factually its not the same situation.

We probably need to have a separate JP Periscope thread this weekend.
Posted on 9/8/17 at 2:04 pm to TigerstuckinMS
Or just have a seprarate thread with only actual info

I was wrong. I admit it. My intent wasn't "chicken littling". Please accept my heartfelt apology and thanks to all for the clarification.

Is the Euro just going to be the new gold standard from now on? They have nailed these last couple of hurricanes. I'm not familiar with its track record; has it always been the forerunner on predictions?
