question slack. Im in Greenville, SC. We are in the far right of the cone, but looks like the storm will be really weak and the eye should be on the GA/AL border when it gets here. Im supposed to fly out Sunday night but don't want to leave the family... now Im thinking we should be in pretty good shape. Am I off if it continues on that projected path? Many thanks

WTF no
They should watch the news but this storm is going nowhere near Venice, LA. Telly your family to enjoy this badass weather we are having.

I'm not even really suggesting it has a chance to hit there or near there. Just saying, extreme coastal Louisiana can get inundated/cut off really easily. This thing skirting the gulf coast of Florida could easily push enough tidal waters that way to make it at least uncomfortable and/or unable to get out for a day or two in a place like Venice.

that's a place? Sounds like an STD....

To shamelessly steal a comment someone made in another thread, they've changed the name to Babycakeshills.

Watching the animated images on the NHC's website really shows how well the forecast track has held up with Irma.

the wind will be coming from the north and west driving most of the water out because of being on the western side, so unless a N or NW wind piles the water up it'll actually be pretty low the next few days

I'd already be stocked up. I saw those pics on FB about turning your washing machine into a giant ice chest.

For Katrina a group of my friends went out in New Orleans the Friday night. I had a poker tournament in BR that night so I didn't go to Nola. No one was overly worried about the hurricane. It was going to hit Florida. Woke up Saturday morning, turned on the TV and freaked the F out. shite changed overnight.

I understand technology improves and forecasting should be better today. But the shifting of Irma's track relative to the model projections feels a lot like Katrina.

Overall the models are fairly accurate and clearly serve a valuable purpose. But no one should put a whole lot of trust in them until about 24 hours out

It's northeast of Tampa and slightly northwest of Lakeland. Looks like right where the eye is headed.
