not Mr. Smith, but here in the Panhandle there's no reason to cancel school tomorrow (Friday.) Monday is fine out of an abundance of caution but Friday causes unnecessary disruption. IF we see effects it will be Sunday, and there are plenty of roads out of here.

We're from Biloxi and he rode out Katrina. He knows what he's getting in to. He's just being a dumbfrick.

They're closing the schools to act as shelters along evacuation routes.

Gets people off the roads so people can get out, not a huge deal to close and could help the flow, can see the reasons for doing it

Key West is an interesting situation. They have only one way out, and they've got a long way to go to get out of harm's way

Katrina as a cat 3 took down every bridge around Biloxi. I doubt Key West will be any different. He needs to leave but he's being stubborn about it.

I don't know. I bet a good number of those 15 million or so people about to get their worlds fricked are going to end up evacuating to family in the panhandle. It's not a terrible idea to free up everyone in the lead up to all of this.

If I was leaving Charleston, looking at all the recent models, I would be looking for a pet friendly hotel in the Richmond area, or maybe VA Beach.

For the last 6 hours it has moved at 286 degrees. WNW is 315 degrees. It is therefore much closer to moving due west than due WNW at this time. Forgive me for the concern, but I believe the track shifts west the longer this trend continues. If we were talking about a true WNW I wouldn't be pointing it out.

I hear you, but I'm not paying that even for a few nights. Unless this thing goes pure west into MS.

I have to work at the VA tomorrow, but then tomorrow night I'll be heading up to Augusta for one night (already got a room) and then over to family outside Atlanta. Packing tonight.

The track is expected, the NHC has basically nailed it today. It's not going to get south of the the turn. It might end up a little west of guidance but not because it's moving more W than N on it's WNW track.

It'll be interesting if Miami takes a direct hit. Our company built thirteen high rise buildings on south beach ten years ago.

I've actually un-cancelled my vacation to Bald Head Island. Heading out Sunday morning.

I should say, this is all contingent on Irma staying west.

What do you mean by "free up"? I imagine having to figure out what to do with them on an unexpected day off will mean more disruption. People aren't on the interstates getting their kids to public school so that's another fallacy. Fuel supply, sure, that could be an issue for buses/teachers, maybe they are trying to conserve.

What do I care, don't have kids, to worry about, unlimited supply of spring water in the back yard, full tank of propane, car fueled up, plenty of booze and plan to go diving this weekend.
