I'm evacing to ATL tomorrow. If it just goes straight up through the entire landmass it is still going to be Cat 3 conditions by the time it hits Tampa. If it hugs the West Coast and goes up we're royally fricked.

Don't forget that the higher up you are in those high rises...the stronger the winds.

The buildings themselves should make it. The window won't and everything inside will be in for a wild ride

But how good is the glass on the things

Buildings down there have impact rated glass that are up to Miami-Dade building codes. It will be interesting to see how many stand up to 185mph winds.

some of those older ones are gonna be in for a beating too i imagine. i doubt building codes in the 70's/80's were meant for this type of thing.

All taken care of. Gas topped off as well. That was fun to find this week.

Would be more like 220mph on the higher floors.

What a bad wobble, instead of slipping into the eye those islands are stuck in the eyewall...

If you refresh a page you can change your vote.
It won't show your previous vote gone until you refresh again though.

My Mom in Ft Pierce has already conceded she will probably lose her house . It's one of those flimsy Boca Boca retirement places wher Jerry's parents live. She's going to ride it out in Orlando and then probably have nothing to return to. She's 76 and frail . I'm guessing I'll be headed down there next week with a truck, generator and supplies . I just feel very sad for her. Of course I have no idea how I will contact her if cells are down and no internet etc.

Sucks pimp. No way to have to spend the twilight of one's life. Florida's senior population would only seemingly exacerbate the problem of managing this once the storm is over.

I wonder how many are in similar situations. All those people that retired to Florida.

I hope your mom stays safe and her home spared.
