The way that this storm has maintained strength is unbelievable.

That's really sad. Is there any way to easily get disaster aid to them?

I'm sure, but those death reports are probably way, way off.

How confident are we that this storm doesn't power through this front and come at us?

Did you make hotel reservations, a place to stay, yet? Stay safe!

I'm not sure why everyone continues to say this. They're not forecasting a turn to the north for another 3 days.

Because it's easier to read a few outdated pages and add one to your post count than it is to read the most recent posts and study the models.

I think people are forgetting that we still have a good while before this storm approaches the US

The record for most time as a Cat 5 is the 1932 Cuba hurricane at 78 hours. Though that record is suspect because it was before there was satellite and reconnaissance. The next and most likely the record is Hurricane Allen at 72 hours in 1980.

Hurricane Irma has been Cat 5 for 36 hours which is a long time for Cat 5 hurricanes. That's already 7th longest.

I agree about the most recent comments but some of us have no fricking clue what the models are saying and are getting ridiculed by "experts" for asking questions.

As of now, there isn't a single model that shows anything but a northern turn. The farthest west that turn is shown is Destin, and even then, it is only one ensemble member showing it.

I've got family in Atlanta, no concerns here.

eta: unless of course you're making an invitation.

None of the real experts are going to ridicule you. They may not answer you, though.

There are like two experts in this thread, and neither of them will belittle you. The rest of it is typical OT shite.

As confident as I am that water flows downhill and not uphill.
