I'll be making a call to cancel my reservations in Columbus, GA by tomorrow. If any of the GA/SC people need a hotel let me know. If I cancel it, it is yours. I'll make the call to the hotel and tell them to reserve it for you somehow.

You staying or going somewhere else?

Does anyone know what exactly is going to keep Irma out of the gulf? I've just never seen a hurricane make pretty much a 90 degree turn like that before

It's actually very common. This is from WU and shows historical tracks of storms similar to Irma. Most don't make it to the Gulf.

Staying if the path continues to push it East.

I have a friend in Birmingham if I must bug out. I'm covered. I don't want to use up hotel space that someone else desperately needs.

Our current plan is to stay with family in ATL but I'm wondering if it's worth the drive and hassle. But we are at the beach. Seems a lot of people are staying though. Maybe we'll stay with some friends in town or something.

Think we hit a trillion dollars in hurricane damage between Irma and Harvey?

Doubt it. Katrina was $135B, adjusted for inflation. 7.5x that damage is pretty hard to see. Certainly hope it doesn't happen.

It's always a tough call. We stayed for Matthew and didn't have any damage. However, our good friends less than a mile away had two trees on his house and another of his trees laid across the driveway and hit his neighbors house.

We chainsawed for days after.

You never know.

Not a good judge of that, but wouldn't surprise me. Looters fina' eat, though, in South Beach.

Check out this current wind field image. That, my friend, is a hurricane strength wind field stretching more than 220 miles across, with a 100+ kt wind field of 155 miles +/-, and a 150+ kt wind field of around 85 +/- miles.

That's some serious hate right there.

What is the forecast for Irma Saturday morning? I am on a cruise ship that is scheduled to return to port at 6-7 am Sat to Miami.

Prepare your anus

His anus will likely be making port in New Orleans.

People are so dumb. Ruining a fricking golf course of someone you don't like isn't worth the possible deaths that will come with it. How is that karma? Trump can rebuild the golf course, families can't rebuild loved ones that die.

Reports now coming out of St. Barths that a lot of the island is still underwater. Alot of the beaches have been destroyed.

That's really sad. Is there any way to easily get disaster aid to them?

Yep. We left for Matthew and came back to zero damage or flooding which was shockingly awesome. Don't know if that means it's unlikely to flood or we got lucky and our luck will run out this time.

Wow surprised they survived. I can't imagine those chains did much of anything to secure their sailboat.

The chains were added to let the boat slip and and down the piling.

However, that would have to be one tall piling to be effective.

Even if they did it perfectly it's likely that another boat or 100 banged into theirs all night. They usually pile up on each other.

ETA: They stayed the night inside the marina building not the sailboat.

The rebuilding will require a lot of glue.

I'm not sure why everyone continues to say this. They're not forecasting a turn to the north for another 3 days.
