My buddy is doing this strategy tonight. Will update how it went for him.
Problem is that he's evacuating to his mom's condo in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. It's a new condo so it's built to Cat 5 standards but still.

Is Rick Scott broken? He repeated the same sentences multiple times just now.

I grew up in FL my whole life. I'm not new to this hurricane thing. I grew up in South FL in the 90's. I know what it's like. Sorry if I don't buy into the fear mongering going on here and in the media. We are prepared for the worst but hoping for the best.

New condo high up outside of Miami should be fine. I think we're just going to bunker down here in Tampa barring any last minute shifts

Dude I'm from Louisiana and live in south Florida. I don't know anyone who HASNT been greatly affected by a storm. It doesn't mean people can just say frick all responsibilities and bounce out almost a week ahead of time.

You should be okay in Tampa Ocean.

I think people underestimate the time it takes to move around during these circumstances. Regardless I hope the best for you and your family.

I'm more concerned about the elderly down south. I know some of the nursing homes are already in the process of evacuating.

Jacksonville is going to be fine. It's in a great location. This storm has two option for Jacksonville. It will either go straight up the peninsula which means it will be much much weaker when it gets to Jacksonville. Or it will stay right off the Florida coast and with the way the coast goes a bit concave at Jacksonville it will keep the city away from the center of the storm. The impact will be like it was for Matthew last year if it takes the path right off the coast.

You should be good assuming no westward shifts I would think.
Jacksonville is kind of inset to the West so if we get any amount of jog to the East we should be in relatively good shape. It's tough to make that call though when this bastard is so strong.

You're exactly right and that's what I'm hoping for. Historically, that's how it's typically gone down so we will see.

New update looking a little better(track wise, anyway) for Florida - the more of Florida that stays on the good side of the storm, the better.
Still going to be a rough one to ride out, but if the East side of that storm stays offshore, pounding the Atlantic Ocean instead of folks and property, it will be a much less catastrophic even, IMO.
