The "Houston" approach
I guess I just don't understand exactly what freaking out and leaving 4 days in advance does for you. People with regular jobs are still expected to be there tomorrow and possibly Friday. For those down south, I agree. For anyone north of Daytona...why?

I was gonna ask mr. soccer what he looked like just in case we needed to pull him out the water.

See what it's like after having lived through a couple. That's the difference. There are people on this board who have lost damn near everything they owned, some more than once.

Yes. North of Columbia somewhere. I'm not kidding, Matthew wasn't a joke of a hurricane like it seems like in hindsight.

Not to throw more fuel on the fire but hunters found 65kt surface winds in Katia and eye is forming. Both Jose and Katia will most likely be hurricanes at the next update

Yea I can't believe all these people acting like a category 5 is nothing not even 2 weeks after seeing people on this board lose everything to a category 4

Interstates south of Tampa are ridiculous
This is going to be a huge issue for the next 2 days at least. People waiting to see where it goes will be sitting through it in their cars if they aren't careful.

Katia is going the opposite way.

I'm trying to get my girlfriend's family in Miami to gtfo. I think their best bet is to leave tomorrow at a ridiculous time (e.g. 1 am)

Who do you think we're talking about? It sure as hell isn't Panama City fleeing into Northern Alabama

Yea it's better to wait til the last minute like everyone else then be stuck on the interstate for a day.

We are fully packed, prepared with a plan and ready to bounce when necessary. I have work tomorrow. Should I be cowering in a corner instead?

Depends on what brand of ratchet strap you buy.
Seriously though, securing things can make a difference... don't want the patio umbrella Jim Bob left outside turning into a missile.

Right, well in the slim chance we don't get 150 mph winds on a storm that could still fluctuate pretty wildly and not get up here until Sunday, I think I'll just avoid completely panicking and take the time to secure my shite and make sure my neighbors are good as well.

The arrogance of those who haven't suffered-yet.

Anyone (to the north) who thinks they will be or might be evacuating from this storm should be making sure their vehicles are filled to the brim with gas and have quite a few gas cans filled as well. With the amount of people headed north, gas is going to run out. Or at least thats what I would do if I lived in anywhere on the east coast of FL.
