There's obvious spiral banding going on there. It's not annular, despite the big ole eye and general roundness.

It must be an incredibly particular scale, because many of the satellite images today have a substantial resemblance to these annular hurricanes:

Don't wait. The road will be a parking lot. The storm may catch you in your car. Leave sooner than too late.

Evac question from a rookie. Starting to think leaving Florida just isn't realistic. How far inland will it be safe from water and the really bad winds?

Or is that just not possible.

If the models stay the same then the panhandle is the only place you'll be clear

With Katrina it was a massive storm, seems overall larger in mass than Irma.. but after that..I evacuate for a 2 these days.

I don't feel like putting up with the inconveniences.

3,4 or 5 where it's about to hit, no good scenarios.

My wife is a Californian and just asked me about practical logistics of a coastal evacuation. I'm starting to think there really isn't any where to go but at least 15 miles inland for some of these strip mall and tract housing hells.

Staying in Gainesville. Have underground utilities. Plenty of gas for the generator.

People are panicking though. Just spent 15 minutes in line getting gas. Hope this thing misses wide right.

We should know a lot more by tomorrow evening. In the meantime tie everything down. My suggestion before was for back roads because the big ones are going to suck. Greater Miami has 6 million people and they are going to be running.

When the storm is through, eat breakfast at a little place in Z'hills called The Sunrise Eatery. You will thank me later.

Ocean- I was told no. Supposedly at 7 (am I guess... getting this from another friend) they have to go into the hotel lobby to ride it out. The place will cut power but they have food to live off of for weeks. Uh... my arse would have evacuated earlier for damn sure.

Masses are asses. Avoid the herd. Get away from metro areas.
