And the eye is bigger than most of those islands so it can be on land and over water simultaneously.

Speaking of which, anyone follow Jeff to see where he is heading to ride out Irma?

If the eye doesn't go over land the hurricane suffers little to no weakening. These islands that it's about to annihilate here in the next 12 hours or so are not large enough to cause any noticeable weakening. So long as the eye stays over warm water for an extended period of time it will continue to maintain its intensity.
Yeah I was talking more about the DR, Hispaniola, PR and Cuba.

North Lakeland here and your advice is spot on.
We are hoping for the quick turn north.

Nature is scary and hautingly beautiful.
I don't understand how it's not annular; I'm also not a meteorologist. Looks annular to my untrained eye.

I was a horrible alcoholic in the 2000s, and would forget things.

12:45 central. Won't see it near Florida until 1:30 or later.

The GFS is way out there. Let’s hope the Euro starts to agree

GFS is not good for SC, I'm not a fan

County line road here
I feel for y'all down there. How's your area handling it so far? It's gone crazy in the last 24 hours or so up here, lines out the doors for EVERYTHING from water to fuel to building supplies.
I'm about 2.5 miles off the gulf but 1.5 from the water, thinking my biggest worry is wind here. I THINK I'm gonna stay and ride it out unless it shows more westerly shifts in the track within the last 60 hours-ish, but several of my neighbors and coworkers aren't even taking the chance.
Here's to hoping it doesn't take the west coast/big bend track

It all depends on where the storm is going. You may want to go to Tampa, or Jacksonville. If I leave I am probably going Friday night.

I think this track will change ten times in the next 3 days but who knows at this point! Hoping in the morning its curved back out into the atlantic. Trust me after the images come in from those islands no one will want this monster heading their way.

Im not sure thats the best advice. If this storms follows the last Euro and it its Ft Meyers and goes up the coast of Florida you dont want to be in Tampa. Or Orlando.

Wonder if Cantore is gearing up for redemption.
