I was on Reddit arguing with some yankee that thought sandy was stronger than Harvey because of this narrative.
They wouldn't know what to do if a Harvey, Katrina, Andrew, etc hit them dead on.
I kind of wish one would do it would shut their arrogant libtard asses up

I am currently on FB trying to convince people I know on the Florida coast to get the hell out of dodge right now before the other 10 million people take off.
They don't seem to want to listen
These are probably some of the same fools who were asking why the people in Houston didn't evacuate before they got pounded with 50 inches of rain.
I think Irma gives a MORE tangible reason to evacuate than Harvey. Harvey was just a vague notion of some little storm that was going to produce a lot of rain....even though the forecasters kept saying that, people didn't want to react to it.
Telling people that Irma is coming your way is about to bring 150 MPH or more winds and is going to huff, puff, and blow your house down, should make people a little more vigilant.

What do the numbers on the ride side indicate?
On a super basic level, take it as the vigor of the rotation (you can read energy) of air in the mid/upper levels. The technical answer is on a math level I don't understand well enough to attempt to explain.

The Intracoastal would be strewn with wrecked boats and debris for a while.

This may be an incredibly ignorant question but is there any chance the keys survive this? I know a handful of people, albeit not well, who have vacation properties down there. Both times I've been I have enjoyed my visits. Shame if they get wiped off the map.

meanwhile... as the GFS ticks on... Jose just loitering out in the central Atlantic as a Cat 3ish storm

Also the last Euro run I don't blame any GOM States for puckering up. We are talking a Cat 5 now this is frightening for a lot of people.
Gotta remember also what a cat 5 does. Say it lands in eastern panhandle, it will cause major damage east to Tampa and inland Florida and west to damn near mobile.
Katrina caused massive damage on the entire LA coast to Pensacola

I live in Pasco Cohnty and am seeing the same shite. Crazy. This will be the first Hurricane I'm worried about since living here in FL. I've only lived here for 4 years. Got hammered twice by tornados while living in TN and now have to deal with hurricanes. Not feeling good right now.

Well this model makes us panhandle dwellers feel a little better, but definitely not out of the woods yet. It worries me that the track could easily change by a couple hundred miles all the way up to the very last minute based off what these pressure systems do and how they interact with each other/Irma.
I'd say anywhere east of Mobile Bay needs to prep like the models are pointed right at them, even AFTER it makes landfall in S Florida and we think we have an idea where it goes from there.
TL;DR - shite.... Just shite.

They do. They are extrapolating out based on the other Categories. IF it went to Category 6, 158knots would be the logical barometer.
Extrapolating out to a six is really asking the question "what is more flat than totally flattened?".
The force the wind exerts is a function of the velocity squared. At about the Category 5 level, the resulting force is just everything is fricked.

Man I really hope this doesn't hit the U.S. Mainland, between the flooding in NOLA a few weeks ago and Harvey hitting Texas hard, we don't need another natural disaster to deal with.
