Here’s the YouTube link. It’s a lot less cluttered and a quicker load on mobile.

A very good friend of mine is at MUSC also, there is no chance the university side of the hospital opens before Tuesday.

3-4 inches around Lex/Cola doesnt seem to jive with the 18z GFS storm track showing an 8 hour stroll down I20 from Florence to the Georgia border.

Onshore flow of moisture and rains will still be to the NW of the center of circulation.

This is the forecasted 6hr rainfall totals while Florence is sitting over Columbia.

Wind is howling. Wish there was a wind gauge up there.

I'm curious about that too. Its a pretty consistent howling.

If you go back ~2.5 hours in the youtube video, there is one of those cup type spinning wind gauges and it is just rocking back and forth like theres almost zero wind.

It isn't.

18.3" over 24 hours though, that is a lot.

@ Isaac. Hopefully he dissipates. The nearest storm is 50+ miles from the center of circulation.

Ask and you shall recieve (kind of)- the Frying Pan used to be an old coast guard tower and I guess it was linked to a NOAA station (Frying Pan Shoals, Buoy # FPSN7) however its currently offline. However abt 8 miles away is a buoy for the Frying Pan Shoals that DOES transmits data (Buoy 41013). You can find the link below.

Don’t know if it was brought up, but when was the last time there were 4 names systems at once?

And we are close to a 5th one at the same time

I think the scale should have 3 sets of categories one each for wind speed, wind field, and surge potential. Each 1-5.

For example right now this storm would be something like a Cat 3-4-4 with 3 wind, 4 wind field, 4 surge.

Wind is an immediate measurement. Easy to do.

Wind field is a bit tougher, as the winds vary within the wind field.

Surge can't be really measured until it affects land, close to landfall.

Reality is, storms like this, the measurements almost need to be more subjective than objective.

Here is the 225NM Cape Hatteras Buoy. Florence is starting to spin over it now looking at the map.

I think an aggregate score would be better, where wind, rain, surge, were multiplied by a size factor to get some sort of score. I am sure someone already came up with something similiar if not the same to what Duke mentioned earlier.

I’ve been interested in weather for a long time, and I’ll say that this may be one of the strangest hurricanes I can recall. It can’t decide where it wants to go; conditions are favorable for it to strengthen, yet it weakened today; it’s going to sit once it makes landfall, it’s all just strange.

Hell, peej could make Florence spin back out to sea, go around Florida, and head straight towards New Orleans.

Florence looks like shite now. Eye looks to have almost collapsed and south and west side are breaking up.

What’s causing this? Has wind shear picked up a substantial amount? Looks like she is getting sheared pretty bad to me...unless this is just another ewrc
