But you implicitly are comparing it to Katrina ie a weakening storm coming on shore. Angle of approach is different, shoreline is different, and speed of storm ia different. It's a fundamentally different scenario

I'm talking about surge in general. The only storms I compared were Camille and Katrina.

For clarity, in no way do I think this storm will have the surge of a storm like Katrina or even Camille.

The Weather Channel interviews must be C or D cup or GTFO

Jen carfargo and stephanie abrams ..and these are like a Cat 3, nothing to take lightly

What's the outlook for Columbia?

Not good flooding wise. Three major rivers run right thru here and with the surge from the hurricane, the water feeding into them from the mountains and the rain they're expecting, we're probably gonna have 2015 level flooding, or worse, all over again. And then there's Lake Murray. Hope Muschamp has good flood insurance coverage.

People on the lake won't flood. That is why they have the emergency spillway...so the power company can flood all the people who live below the lake.

FWIW, the 18z GFS is taking Florence to the coast a bit quicker, which puts her getting a little further inland in NC before the SW drift. That also means she doesn't drift as far SW as previous runs and ends up taking her through central SC, basically from Myrtle Beach over Columbia.

They cranked the flow up this week to try and get some water out of there ahead of time. It went from right around 1000 cfs to 14,000+ the last I checked yesterday.

If they were important they’d have enough money to not live below the lake.

Oh yeah, they aren't taking any chances this time. Very impressive discharge.

I believe Duke is doing the same thing on Lakes Wylie and Norman.

I bet. All the dam operators were told to release water and to let everyone know downstream from them.

Hopefully the lakes and creeks around Forrest Acres hold up this time.

I'm not even sure if they ever rebuilt those dams.

like the 2014 flood event in SC

2015

My parents house got 28” of rain in 2.5 days.

We survived a little better on the Charleston Penninsula with only 23” in 2.5 days.

Charleston had a fire hose of water directed at it, yet 80 miles north and south received little to no rainfall.
