Why hasn’t the NHC cone model in OP been updated since 5am?

Does anybody know the name of that weather guy in the Caribbean that does the report with a parrot on his shoulder?

If the cone were true it would never need to be updated.

Pretty sure the NHC only releases updates at 5 and 11 Eastern. So, next advisory from them will be 11am Eastern.

Shelby said they didnt do a 7am intermediate update because the storm isnt a threat to land for another 48 hours.

She said the hurricane hunter is out there right now and will send an update as soon as they have one

The days of TWC being a 24/7 weather channel are long over. Given their love for storm stories, they're an "entertainment" channel more than a weather channel. And as mentioned by many what weather they carry can't be trusted for their continuous awfulizing.

But of course when the models first get fired up they show it hitting Miami and New Orleans. It's like that's the preset model run and they only change it when they have to. Gotta scare the most folks.

Not sure if serious.

Is it correct that the ensembles that show a stronger storm are the ones that want to recurve it out to sea? Seems like that's quite a change in upper level steering.

There are two distinct clusters with the stronger cluster being farther south and slower and the other being weaker, farther north and faster.

After that it's hard to tell if stronger means a quicker north turn (there are some members showing that) or that members that are already farther north are turning north into the weakness and strengthening as they avoid land interaction.

Also, the 06z Euro EPS shows and even more significant north shift with many members escaping into the weakness.

Last night, every time I looked, they were telling you how to hurricane proof your roof. Kept replaying the same thing over and over. Looks to me like they could do the normal programming of tow trucks pulling stuck trailers out of the snow for another day or so.

TWC was great back in the day before they went with NBC News.

Remember all the Michelin commercials and Local on the 8s?

before they went with NBC News.
The Weather Channel sold its assets, including weather.com, Weather Underground, the related mobile applications, and their underlying data platforms, to IBM in late 2016 although The Weather Channel itself is still owned by the Bain/Blackstone/NBC-Universal consortium.

IBM is using its Watson technology as part of the acquisition for weather analytics and predictions.

just to add to this... they only put out intermediate advisories when there are watches or warnings issued

I guess since Dorian's out of the Caribbean and not near islands... there are no watches or warnings... thus no intermediate advisories for the time being
